Although I was born in London I've spent most of my life in the Canary Islands, home to my paternal Scottish ancestors since the middle of the 19th century. Educated at private schools in England and Scotland I also worked in the UK before going to university as a mature student for a Masters degree in Diplomatic Studies. I returned to the Canary Islands in 1989 where I enjoy nothing more than swimming in the Atlantic Ocean with my sons, playing tennis and gardening. I make a living working for a small firm but also contribute to local newspapers, give private English lessons and do translation work for numerous clients including the regional parliament. I am also a qualified official Canary Island Tourism Guide. I have published a book, The Skipping Verger and Other Tales, a collection of my short stories set in the Canary Islands.
I joined expat.com on 17 November 2013.
