Retired teacher-librarian from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Interested in a variety of activities. Outgoing, friendly, very new to Ecuador. Learning Spanish now. Teaching English part-time. Adventurous type. Like good humoured peeps.
I joined expat.com on 29 December 2013.
Would like to teach English again.
Ambato is the cleanest city in Ecuador, I have seen so far. Surrounded by mountains, it is located in a large valley, and I live in a suburb above the city. Great view. Aprox. 300,000 inhabitants. Every Monday is street market day downtown, and it gets crowded. Life is affordable here, living on a small pension. The Botanic Gardens and the many small parks make it a nice place to retire.
I am somewhat leery about the Tungurahua Volcano nearby. I also despise the exhaust fumes from buses and trucks, which contribute an awful lot to the pollution. Patience also is a true virtue in this country.
