HCMC district with cleaner air?

Post new topic

ChoculaD

Which districts have the least polluted air? But location not too difficult to get to center of city?

Cu Chi, I think, would be a great choice but it’s too far out.

What about District 12? I hear it has a lot of green space, not polluted if you get away from the main roads, and of course much cheaper than District 1.

Also northern Go Vap, near the Go Vap Cultural Park?

Can Gio I think has clean air but too difficult to get there.

Districts 7 and 2, how is air quality?

Thanks for any opinions.

D7 depending where you go is about as good as it gets & still in the city. But lets not kid ourselves here "not polluted in HCMC"1f923.svg I live in a gated community Celadon City Tan Phu with its own green park & beautiful gardens but still have to clean the black oily dust off the ceiling fan every week.

@goodolboy Thanks Goodolboy. Of course I said less polluted, not non-polluted.

Thanks Andy, I never would have thought about District 9, since I know next to nothing about it. But is it still part of HCM or is it now a separate city called Thu Duc?

Its all now a super city D2, Thu Duc D9 now called Thu Duc City

"Thủ Đức is a municipal city under the administration of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The city was founded by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on December 9, 2020 from the districts of 2, 9, and Thủ Đức District. Thu Duc City covers 211.56 km²"

Take a drive to the south end of Huỳnh Tấn Phát, District 7, and have a look.

Anywhere south of the street named Trần Trọng Cung, or the large bridge named Cầu Phú Mỹ.

You'll still be only a 15-20 minute ride to D1 (and rental prices drop dramatically).

The further south on that road you go the better the air quality.

You could try Binh Chanh at the end of Vo Van Kiet Road. This road connects with the arterial roads that take you to Tien Giang and around the back of Saigon up to D12. Vo Van Kiet Road will take you all the way to D1 with very few stops. Its around 15 klms from the city centre.

@Aidan in HCMC Wow, that's a great tip, Aidan. Thanks. Is this area considered Phu My Hung or it's south of Phu My Hung?

ChoculaD

@AndyHCMC Thanks. So I wonder what was the point of making 3 districts into one and calling it Thu Duc City? If it's still part of HCMC, I wonder what the reason was for doing it.

ChoculaD

@colinoscapee Thanks. I don't know anything about Binh Chanh district, but I googled it during my research and one website said it does not have many parks or green natural areas. It would be nice to be near a big park.

I find the central districts of Saigon acceptable during the rainy season because the rain cleans a lot of the pollution from the air, but dread the coming dry season.

Ho Chi Minh "City" is actually a municipality.

There are 5 centrally-controlled municipalities existing at the same level as provinces: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Da Nang and Hai Phong.

Cities within these municipalities don't have the same authority as a municipality, but the city government is better suited to deal with local issues.

It will be east of, and south of Phu My Hung.

I'm really not a big fan of the Phu My Hung area of D7. It feels to me to be "trying" much too hard to replicate living in the west. That, and the rents there are atrociously high, IMVHO.

I suggest you take a ride down there to see if it suits your fancy. It is very authentic VN living, so it might not be for everyone.

One thing which appealed to me about that area, is that from the very south end of Huỳnh Tấn Phát road, there is a very short ferry ride over to an island. I forget the name of the island, but it is something like "Monkey Island". Though I didn't see monkeys there, the island is sparsely populated (by VN standards), with large expanses used for the harvesting(?) of salt from seawater. Large (very large) fields with shallow seawater left to evaporate allowing the collection of salt. It is worth the short (and cheap) ferry ride just to experience a part of HCMC not often visited by people, either VN or foreigner. Wide open stretches, scattered small villages, and a lush landscape. Perfect for picture taking, and a get-away from the city, in the city :)

If/when you do visit the area, please report back your impressions of the neighbourhood.
