Hi,

Please help me the process of getting NIF number in LOJA DE CIDADÃO DE LISBOA - MARVILA or Online if possible and timelines.

I heard its free but i see some websites charging too much for NIF number.

I have address proof(The junta de freguesia) and i am a resident in Portugal.

Best regards,

Dev

Hi Dev,

You can apply for the NIF free of charge. To do so, just go to an AT Tax Authority office ("Finanças") near where you live or to a citizen's shop, looking there for the AT Tax office inside.

If the AT requires appointment in advance, and you are very urgent about it, you can ask a solicitor for support. They have priority over other citizens and will deal with it quickly.

What documents does NIF require?

@dev009

stupid question, no doubt, but are foreigner’s including US short stay tourism, required to check in with the Junta when they are staying somewhere for a while?

Question: I have tax representation from NIFonline and I am about to change my address via the eBalcão. Do I need to cancel tax representation or does this still have a function while I live in Portugal?

Hello

I am assuming you have a fiscal representative whom you have paid a fee to to be your fiscal representative.

Once you change the address of your NIF from the tax representative you have currently to your address, you will get a new NIF form from the online site in just a few days.

Do you have the procedure you follow to do this update of address?

You then send the new NIF doc. with your updated address to your current fiscal representative and that person cancels your representation and you no longer pay that person to be your tax representative.

I have just done this.
