I my opinion it is best to have a TEFEL certificate with a copy of your bachlors degree while teaching in Thailand.

Online courses are at the bottom of a very rubbish barrel.

Apart from the instruction being generally crap, you get zero classroom experience.

Depends on the employer. Many require one in the absence of sufficient TEFL experience. Then again, others just take walking bodies that want to work.
Advantage is that it'll tick the box (if required and accepted). The disadvantage is the complete lack of practical training. The trick is finding a course that offers it.
Dodgy certs attract dodgy employers.
