Like many other  countries depending on tourism Malta suffered a lot with this covid-19 crisis. Most likely 2020 was the worst year. It got a bit better in 2021 and in 2022 almost everything is as good as in 2019.

My personal experience is based on my Christmas holidays I have spent in the same hotel during these 3 years over here in Malta.

In 2020 I booked this hotel in September from 23.-26. December. Two weeks before my arrival the travel agency told me it is too risky to travel to this hotel. I did not believe the travel agency and went to the hotel myself. The receptionist said:"of course you can come for Christmas and I came." At that time the occupancy rate was about 20% and it was an odd feeling being in such a big hotel with such a small number of guests. Even though the hotel offered a Christmas market no kiosk was opened.

In 2021 I came again. This time the occupancy rate was about 50% and the Christmas market was opened. Some of the employees who are from the Philippines remembered we came the previous year and welcomed us again.

In 2022 this same hotel was almost as busy as before The occupancy rate was 75% and many locals came to the hotel just to have their Christmas lunch or Christmas dinner. Nobody was wearing a mask anymore and covid-19 appeared to be forgotten. We were forgotten too. None of the employees remembered us coming the two previous years. As business goes on there were different waiters and receptionists.

How would you rate this changing world?
