Hello I'm Kate

I'm a new member recently registered on this forum. Currently residing in BC Canada and would very much interested to move to Cambodia under some kind of  job engagement or volunteer program.

Thought I would start to educate myself on the nuances of living in Cambodia and joined this forum.

Can't wait to start looking around and making friends/contacts.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the welcome!

After travelling to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia in March this year, my partner Chris & I fell in love with the laid back and very friendly people we met, not to mention the breath taking beauty of each place. We particularly fell in love with Siem Reap and as we are both nearing towards retirement in the next 10 years thought we would love to work and live there. We both work in sales and in customer service positions and work remotely.  I know it's not easy but nothing worth having is, but I will be keeping an eye out for any jobs that would be suitable. We aim to travel next year back to only Cambodia and take in other areas to get a good feel for the country. In the mean time we will explore this wonderful site and see how people are getting along!

Happy weekend guys 🙏❤️

@saildavetondy HI I'm Maddison. I've been living here since September. Hoping to make a few connections.

@JulienHi my name is David and I currently live in Australia but due to the extremely high costs of living in Australia I would love to move to live in Siem Reap as a retired person in early 2024.

Hi firstly I would take a month's holiday and see for yourself, the reality of retirement in Cambodia for yourself,

There are important considerations,

1, healthcare is not free but costs are reasonable,

2, private health care plan is expensive AVG $9000 a year premium, but one I did find was $2400p/a,

3, rents are cheaper in the Provence's, but it's better to buy a flat as rents will rise,

4, western food is expensive Khmer food is not,

5, water bill, gas bill, waste bill, are cheap, electric is not,

6, visa 1 year is $290 through an travel agent,

7, transport stick to tuk tuk agree a fare before you set off, driving here is diabolical.

8, stay out of the bars unless you got lots of spare cash,

9, stay polite most Cambodia people will be to you,

10, above all find out first hand

On that last note, I will give you my life here,

I own my 55 M2 3rd floor modern shop house flat in daun penh,

Gas is two bottles p/a $36, water $12 p/a, electricity $480 p/a, waste bill $12 p/a, 1 year visa $290, food 50/50 western & eastern, $4000 p/a, TV $100 p/a,

WiFi $208 p/a, you find different amounts by different people, depending on Thier lifestyle,

dcoulthurst

@toni345th I have been to Cambodia back in 2019 and I loved it and I was in the Philippines for 3.5 years due to the lockdowns from Covid-19 so I know a little bit of living abroad. I receive the Disability Support Pension since 2017 so I have a regular income for the rest of my life but due to Australia being so extremely expensive now and prices are due to increase over the next 6 months again, I feel it is time to move to an extremely cheap but really beautiful country like Cambodia and Siem Reap which is where I want to live with a fully furnished apartment and swimming pool, Wi-Fi and other good amenities for only about $200 a month.
