Hello Everyone,

Wonderful to meet you all, it seems like a lovely community here1f60a.svg

I'm a British citizen currently seeking a job in Singapore and will require a work visa sponsorship to work in the country. I've been applying to marketing/partnership jobs for a few months now without any luck on websites such as LinkedIn and JobStreet and it's starting to feel impossible1f610.svg

I've got 4+ years of experience in marketing and managing partnerships but it seems not many organisations are willing to open up the role to foreigners. I'm a Native English speaker who can also converse in Cantonese & Mandarin.

Please let me know if you think I'm missing a trick, I would appreciate any advice you have and would be happy to share my resume!

beppi

@SGhereicome The missing trick might be having skills that are lacking in the local population - only then can a foreigner be hired. Ask yourself: What can I do on top of what a similarly skilled Singaporean applicant is able to?

Hi all,

I wouldn't mind if anyone can help enlightened me on pros n cons of Singapore.

Thanks and it's a pleasure to have you all here.

beppi

@ashagoll157 You are welcome to read, on this forum, the many discussions of pros and cons of Singapore - a great place to live if you have sufficient money.

Finding a job is basicall only possible with very good (and recognised educational credentials and applicable work experience. What can you offer in this respect?

nanagyan919

@Julien

Greetings family am very happy to be here

Am Frank from Ghana and I would like to relocate to

Singapore and work, please what are the requirements,

beppi

@nanagyan919 Julien is the international site owner, lives on Mauritius and is unlikely to help with Singapore-specific questions. But I can try:

The requirements depend on the kind of work visa you intend to apply for - so read up on that first!

First and foremost, you must find an employer willing to hire you and apply for your work visa - which is difficult. You basically have a chance only with good (and recognised) educational credentials (e.g. university degree) and a minimum of three years applicable work experience in a field where Singapore lacks local manpower. Do you have that?

Séphora de Tarragon

@SGhereicome

I understand you very well as I am experiencing the same situation. I am a French citizen, I moved in Singapore in December 2022 to follow my husband who works here with an international organization. I have been looking for a job in clinical research for 9 months and I haven't secured a job yet. I usually applied to job ads (LinkedIn, Indeed), but I was told it was pointless, it was better to meet people and network.

The reason for rejection I have received so far is always the same: "you don't have a local experience" , even if I have 6 years of experience in my field in Europe, Africa and North America.

I think it's difficult for foreigners to find a job here, but as everything in life: nothing is impossible.

Most important, keep applying, network, have courage, don't underestimate you and don't let anybody underestimate you, know your true value.

Good luck,

Sephora

Sorry to disappoint you, but there is no visa type that allows working AND studying - only one of them at a time. And to work, you need to find a job first. Good luck with that!

stuffimlearning

@beppi does that mean that an s pass holder cannot enroll to a grad school here in SG?

beppi

@stuffimlearning As far as I know, that is not allowed. There might be exemptions if an employer sponsors the studies as part of the employee's work, or for evening classes, but Iam not fa,iliar with the rules there.
