My wife and I are Real estate investors in the Chicago area and are transferring our business to Punta Cana & Bavaro. Were down here now getting everything lined up for the big move.
I need some assistance from this group:
I need a Dermatologist that can help with a rash - I had a massage and I don't think my body liked that oil and the sun - problem is my Spanish is very weak so Im looking for an English speaking DR in the Punta Cana / Bavaro area that can help with this skin issue - ANY IDEAS please jump in
thanks
Welcome to the forums! I do not have a specific name but can recommend you contact Hospiten - its a very well run hospital here. I use their location in Santo Domingo!
Welcome to the forum and welcome to the DR. I hope you find your rash solution. Great place for other resources too. PM sent.

Hello all,
I'm a newbie who's looking forward to retirement in the DR, specifically Punta Cana. I have visited several times and I absolutely love it.
Looking forward to meeting people and immersing myself in the culture.
I have questions but have found the answers to many of them on the various threads. Thanks for the great Information and look forward to communicating with you all
Welcome to the forums! Really glad you are finding it useful!!!
Hi everyone,
My wife and I are approaching retirement and after visiting many places in the Caribbean we are seriously considering retiring to the Dominican Republic. We have enjoyed vacationing there but realize living there will be a very different experience. What we have seen of the culture has been very positive, so our plan is to do some long term rentals to get a better feel for living life in the DR. My wife and I both love the ocean and look forward to spending our retirement years with sand between our toes. I’m an old surfer who has been landlocked to long an intend to use my retirement to remedy that issue.
We have already found some great information on this forum and look forward to getting more involved.
Marty & Karyn.

@Julien
thank you for hosting this forum!
I am looking to move to the DR for a few months to work remotely. Right now I am trying to find both the perfect location to work from and a comfortable, safe, and affordable home with reliable Internet service and power.
I’ve traveled extensively through the island in the past and I am strongly considering moving to Santo Domingo or Cabarete. With that in mind, any leads on apartments would be appreciated. Of course, I’m trying to avoid gringo pricing.
thanks in advance, and I look forward to connecting with you all.
Best,
Kofi
@akiaent21 welcome, I have lived here off and on for 24 years and now retired here.
I have several close friends that are realtors, fully bilingual if you need a few contact names. You can DM me directly
Welcome to the forums! You will find many options for housing in both places, depending on your price and needs.
As we keep this thread for welcome and introductions we invite you to read the other threads, ask your questions and if you do not find what you are looking for, start your own thread honey!
Andriea from the USA.
Welcome to the forums!! Lots of great information for you here. Feel free to ask any questions in the appropriate thread and start a thread if and when you need or want to.
my wife and i looked all around the Caribbean for retirement condos. We settled on DR and are building a new condo in the Punta Cana / Bavaro area. Construction should be done sometime in 2024. Can't wait to move there. I have started reading through some of the threads on this site and have found it helpful.
Welcome to the forums Harris! I hope you will keep us updated on your progress and feel free to ask any questions you have throughout the threads!
@Harris Levinson , glad to meet you! My husband and I are doing the same. Ours should be completed August 2024. Perhaps we’ll be neighbors. BTW we hail from Atlanta, Ga.
@andrieawashington not sure where you are moving to. we bought a condo in the Oceana complex in Bavaro. Living in NJ now and can't wait for the condo to be done.
Macao Hills in La AltaGarcia (Bavaro). That’s where we bought.
Why don't you both connect via Private messenger and exchange contact information?
Hi Everyone,
I have a lot of land on the water in the Azua/Bani area of the DR about an hour away from Santo Domingo that I'm probably going to retire on in about 12 years or so. In the past, I've traveled there about once a year.
I've started the process of learning Spanish and was hoping to meet some like-minded people who travel to the DR or are thinking about moving/retiring there.
@andrieawashington Hola.. live in Las Terrenas and from Augusta Georgia. I met some Canadians passing through Las Terrenas last year. They asked me " is it true that people from Georgia come down here during the summer to get AWAY from the heat?". I said absolutely, you have not idea 😂
Welcome to the forums. Lots of us here happy to help. And the forums are full of great info and advice!
Hello everyone,
I am Jeffery from Virginia. After visiting the DR for the past 2 years, I am taking a leap of faith to relocate there permanently. I found this forum while looking for movers. Now, I see in the threads, moving furniture may not be the best ideal. Just sale and purchase there?
In the interim, I hope to gain further knowledge on how to properly and wisely makee DR my new home. I am open to all sorts of info from start to finish. So don't hesitate to share. Some things that concern me are residency, healthcare, taxes and lodging. I will arrive in 2 weeks to look at apartments in SD & Santiago. My move date is the end of August. I do have a small retirement income, but I do feel a PT job will help provide a cushion.
Desperate for advice,
Jeff
@jefferymherring Welcome! My advise is to try and obtain a job before you move there. Maybe billing remotely. etc. (dynamitejobs.com good source) This way you are paid in dollars!
Welcome to the forums Jeff. Honey all your concerns are covered on the numerous threads! Please use the search function or just start reading. Ask questions in the various threads or start a new one if you cannot find what you need!

hello
My name is Tania. I’ve been traveling to the Dominican Republic for quite some time. I love it here—from humble people to the fresh food! I am from NYC, USA. I would love to relocate here with my children and hope to make it a reality soon. I am currently staying in the Capital and am open to meeting other foreigns!

Welcome to the forums. Lots of great info.
I would suggest open a thread about how to move here with kids - pros and cons, challenges, the joys!
Hi Everyone,
My wife Julie and I moved to Camu (outside Puerto Plata) in September. We are starting an orphanage for young girls. You can find us on Google maps at Fundacion Casa Sicomoro, and online. We are working to get ourselves settled here and expect to be operating shortly! Right now I am researching AC units! If anyone has recommendations for stores and/or installers I'd appreciate it!
Blessings,
Mark McEathron
