Welcome on board!
Hi my name is Alison. I’m a bit far from early retirement however after traveling all over the Caribbean I fell in love with las terrenas in 2020. Due to personal reasons I will be visiting the DR twice a year for the foreseeable future and I’d like to have a vacation home in las terrenas to stay in while there. I am actively seeking to purchase a small rental property. Eager to learn more about the area from locals. Thank you

Welcome to the forums. We have a few members from that area. Lots of great information on the various threads!
Hi Expat Community!
Thank you so much for hosting this forum! It is super helpful! (especially you Planner)
And it helps me feel more at home.
My name is Christopher. I arrived to the Dominican just yesterday! (From the United States, I've been living in NYC most of the last 6 years, running a non-profit until 2021 dedicated to peacebuilding and multi-cultural cohesion).
I came here because two of my close friends from NYC are now living and working here on Coral Restoration, and I would like to learn more on how I can be of greater support to their mission.
In addition, I would REALLY like to move here and live full-time (or at least stay for a few months) , but that would require I find some work which would sponsor me. I have a large amount of Sales experience (10+ years), am very fluent in American English -- and would love to possibly work in Sailboats (from sales to crewing , chartering, etc) , while studying the coral reefs here, in my free time.
If anyone has ANY connections to ANY type of work, I might can do, I would be incrediiibbly grateful. I love working hard and supporting the local community. In addition to sales I have worked on agriculture and horse farms, in restaurants, in kitchens, and in counseling. I also have volunteered at many wildlife rehabilitation organizations , and would love to help Ocean World as well, if I were to stay and find sponsored work.
I have many friends coming in soon from all over the world for a big, beautiful wedding as well, in Sosua. It would be fun to build wonderful community while here, while benefitting the local ecosystems. I hope maybe I can meet some of you in person while here. I will be here at least until the end of January, hopefully longer.
Have a wonderful day, and thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer!
Muchas Gracias.
Big love,
Christopher
Welcome to the forums. Please start reading honey. Start with the residency thread. Without residency or a. Job sponsor it's impossible to find work. Sorry it's not what you want to hear. Any questions ask in the various threads or start your own and ask away.

There is likely no assistance for you officially here due to the poverty and immigrant issues.

@dougdanakids Welcome! This thread is just for intros, but please read through the multiple threads on real estate/investment properties, etc. I'm certain there are a few where we've discussed self-directed IRÁ purchases of investments too.

Heyyy hello Iam planning on sending my father over there he is a senior. How is the community for seniors?
Welcome to the forums. Its not a matter of just sending him here. Please start by reading the pinned threads. When you say senior that has different meanings for everyone. After some reading, start asking questions or start your own thread to get the information you need.
New here and have never been to DR, but turned to the visa options in DR as my visa in Peru went tits up due to the rioting taking place there now. So, having most of my documents apostilled with the clock counting down on them as I have been hanging out in Panama waiting (around 55 days left), I look at DR to get in, but having some document issues with the TRS Pension Payment Letter.
Looking forward to reading the stories and helpful information here and if you have any sample or helpful documents for my getting a pension document certified at the consulate that will be accepted, please let me know. The current TRS Pension Payment Letter is not accepted, even while apostilled, and TRS will not notarize or offer any other assistance with pension paperwork. So, I am scratching my head trying to figure this one detail out so I can get my paperwork in prior to expiration and the 60 day temp visa in DR.
Thanks in advance,
James

Hi, I am Todd and I currently live in Nebraska. I have visited the DR a couple of times and a while ago I started my research on moving to the DR when I retire in about 2 years. I will be in Casa Linda for the month of April as I do some more first had checking on the area and what it’s like to actually live there and not on an all-inclusive. I look forward to learning more from this site as I have already had some questions answered, but also had many more questions brought to light.
@toddhruza Welcome to the forum! You are doing the right thing in renting a villa and staying a month to get an intro to living outside the all-inclusive resorts! Read through the threads, particularly the pinned ones. If you have questions that don't fit into an existing thread, feel free to start your own!
Welcome Todd! I agree sounds like you are doing this right. Feel free to ask all your questions in the various threads! And keep us posted on your process!

Thanks to all thr participants in the forums for.all the advice and guidance.

Hi everybody,
a quick introduction to this community. After having the DR as our favourite go-to place for our vacations since 2008, my wife and I are now looking into relocating from The Netherlands to the Dominican Republic. We are looking to move to the Las Terrenas area on Samana.
After some lurking on this forum I finally decided to setup an account here and hopefully are able to contribute to the community instead of just absorbing the tons of great information out here. I've already learned there are many (sometimes subtile) details to consider and pay attention to to have everything stay on 'the happy path'.
Hi everyone and Happy Valentines Day. I am Canadian and have an amazing wife and kids that are my world. I have been lurking around the forum for a couple of years now reading all of the comments and learning from many of the experiences shared by the members. We have travelled to the DR many times over the last 3 - 4 years and enjoyed every second of our experience. So much that last year we purchased a condo in Sosua right on Playa Alicia and have already visited 3 - 4 times in the last 6 months. Cannot get enough of the beaches, sun, ocean and wonderful people.
Happy to be part of this forum and look forward to many more experiences.
Good morning everyone and Feliz Dia del amor y amistad.
I am a proud Dominican who has spent most of her life in the US - sitting on the fence. I joined this group after purchasing a condo in Samana. While I visit my country frequently and visit my family as often as possible, until 2022 I was unable to purchase a home in my beloved island. I am excited and looking forward to spending more time (now that I am retired) on the beautiful beaches, enjoying tropical foods, dancing until dawn and living out one of my dreams.
Welcome to the new members! I love the introductions and attitude! Awesome. Please take part wherever appropriate!!!
Well, well, well, what shall I say? On my first visit to DR for work, and I already fell in love with the people, the land, the nature, the weather, the food, it feels like heaven on earth. I look forward to a long-time engagement with the people of DR in their quest for better and free energy. So I will be looking for a house where I can always feel at home. Kind regards to everybody here. Samson
