Hello There,
Mu husband and I have lived in several countries and will soon be moving to Itajai with 2 young kids. We are looking forward to our new adventure. We never lived in South America. We have lived in Asia, Europe and Africa.
However, moving with 2 kids means we have a lot of questions about schools etc. Anyone from that area who can help me out with all my questions?
Thank you!

@Taedeu what state will you be coming to? Where did you live in in the States? Did you keep your ties here in Brazil? I too have lived most of my life in the US, though i was born in Argentina. Hope you do well with your plans! We live close to Natal, my husband and I.

Hello everyone,
I am from New Jersey and have been traveling in Brazil since May on a tourist visa. I extended my Tourist visa a few weeks ago and am now thinking of trying to get a digital nomad visa to stay another year.
I heard about this forum from a friend and am hoping to find a way to get all my paperwork for this visa without having to return to the USA.
08/19/23 Welcome, @christiangaines. A lot of people are already in Brazil on Digital Nomad visas, and some have been here long enough that they're in or through the renewal process, so you should find plenty of answers to your questions from people who have been through it. You can find the most active thread on the subject here:
Hello from Canada.......
The nickname was given to me by my Brasilian friends because I am bright white kkkkkkkkk........."Caspar the friendly ghost"..........
First trip to Brasil was in February 2000. I'll never forget the front door opening on the TAM 737 at Santos Dumont airport when we parked, just prior to disembarking onto the tarmac via the rolling stairs. You could see the heat wave shimmer all the way down the cabin, and when it hit you.....woooooffff !!! Hot and smelling unlike anything else. In 24 hours.....my mind was made up.
Married to a Carioca for 20+ years now and living in Canada. Listing our house in the spring and moving back to Rio next year, in the fall or winter. She's a dual citizen, and I've had PR status for 5 years now. Fluent in the language with a Carioca accent as we domicicle 90% of the time in Rio, and have been to Brasil over 60 times since 2000.......we're both late 50's no kids........
Nice to be here !!
09/03/23 @Gasparzinho 777. Welcome! With all that time on the ground in Brazil, it sounds like you'll be ready for anything at this end. Good luck with the move!
Hello, Im Randall! I just moved to Rio from California, happy to meet and see you all here!
Hi, Denise here. I'm a dual citizen (BR/US) living in the US for 40+yrs and planning to move back next year and settling around Marica,Rj.
Would love to connect with expats living in that area.
Thanks
My name is Timothy, I'm a Trinidadian that moved to Brazil after getting married to a Brazilian woman that I met via a mutual interest group. We're currently residing in the interior of SP. It's definitely been quite the change, but Brazil is absolutely awesome.
09/04/23 @StarkHorizon. Welcome, Timothy! Best of luck in settling in. If you have questions, be sure to scan the threads in the forum for the subjects that interest you, and if you don't see what you're looking for, feel free to start a thread yourself. We're here to help each other.

Hi to every one!
Rick and Bree here, I'm from the UK , Bree is from California and we are currentlyl iving in Memphis TN but looking to retire in the Natal-Nisia Floresta region.
We had never even considered Brazil until our son married a lovely Brazilian lady and we visited last year. Now on our second visit and researching houses. visa taxes et al!. Any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated,
Hi Rick and welcome. By sheer coincidence, I was just sent a research report into tourism in Nisia Floresta this morning!!! Never heard of it before, and obviously never visited, so cannot offer any info about it. But we are both Brits who have been living on the island of Itamaracá (2.5 - 3 hours drive further south) for 16 years. Find out more if you want by searching for Itamaraca tourism, but happy to help with any advice...
Rick - if you want a copy of that report (it is in Portuguese, but very interesting), I think you would need to send me a private message with your email, as I cannot post it in this forum...
@rlane
Hi Rick and Bree, good luck with your relocation efforts. We live close to Nisia Floresta, just a town over, but in the countryside. Jay and I both grew up in California, as adults, met in NM. We have been here for six years. You are welcomed to contact us too, Claudia and Jay
Rick and Bree, welcome to a beautiful area. Pretty much most of the areas between Natal and João Pessoa or Recife are favorite beach and nature destinations for those from the larger municipalities on the coast and inland cities. I hope that you find the best of the northeast.
From Paraíba,
MattB

Hello, welcome back!
I was wondering how to get dual citizenship?(Brasilian)
09/24/23 I was wondering how to get dual citizenship?(Brasilian) -@OnlyRoddPremium
To apply for naturalization in Brazil, an applicant must:
- Be a legal resident of Brazil, with a CRNM;
- Have lived continuously in Brazil as a legal resident for four years, or for one year if the applicant is the spouse or parent of a Brazilian citizen, prior to applying for naturalization.
- Prove proficiency in the Portuguese Language, either through certification by passing the CelpeBras examination, or through complete documentation (transcript of grades, complete course descriptions, certificate or diploma) of successfully completing a university-level Portuguese course at a Brazilian educational institution approved by the Ministry of Education;
- Provide a current criminal background check from country of origin, with apostille and Sworn Translation;
- Provide current criminal background checks from Brazilian federal and state courts in Brazilian states where the applicant has lived during the preceding four years.
Brazil permits dual citizenship. You should be sure that obtaining a second citizenship will not create any difficulties for you in Canada.

@Julien Hello all, I am currently living in Miami Florida and will be moving to Rio next year. I already have my permanent residence and I am interested in naturalizing. Has anyone naturalized WITHOUT taking the Celpe-Bras? Apparently it is possible to do so if you can provide a certificate from an ensino superior that is registered with the ministry of education showing that you are proficient in Portuguese. Recommendations on schools in Rio that provide this type of certification would be greatly appreciated. I am not interested in Celpe-Bras prep-courses, I am hoping for feedback from individuals that have real experiences naturalizing in this way.
