Sending money from the DR to...

Post new topic

Plantano

Hi everyone,

What's the best method send pesos to Canada or the USA from the DR that's not a wire transfer or Western Union?

Best in terms of cost and being secure? I know you can wire funds but the cost is too high for modest amounts.

Thank you!

You know I don't think we have had this question before! I don't know the answer. Sorry honey

Plantano

Thanks Planner, me either.

I would have no issue sending money abroad and already have paypal, Xoom, etc...setup but for some people, it's more complex.

I've sent myself money via Xoom and used paypal a lot in the past but if you were a relatively unsophisticated ( regarding banking) Dominican without the benefit of having paypal and Xoom, to Caribe Express, already setup and hooked up to a bank account it's a whole different matter.

I've not been able to find out if one can use Caribe Express, for example, or similar to send from the DR.

The receiver has had issue with Western Union in the pst and cannot sent using it, but no one has been able to confirm whether or not they would be able to receive. I would think so but... unconfirmed.

Any help or insight from members would be welcome.

Should i find out the result I'll post again in case it helps others in the future.

Thanks.

I have been using Wise to send money the opposite direction and to use for local (grocery) purchases.  It's worked perfectly, but best for smaller amounts ($1000 US download $5000 CDN upload).

I can upload from my Canadian account, convert to US, then download to my DR account.

I don't see why you couldn't do the opposite.

One caveat, they currently don't have a DOP currency option, so you may have to convert to CDN or US first, then do the transfer.

Their currency exchange rates are better than banks, and their transfer fees are also way lower.

Best of luck!

I also use wise.  Sending USD outside the US will involve a wire transfer.  No way around it, I've tried.

Sending CDN may be completely different though.   As mentioned, wise doesn't support pesos.

Depending on your income source you can open a virtual account with them and have your usd deposited into that account which is in the US.  It's all a bit confusing when it comes to USD.

Just curious - why do you want to send pesos to the US or Canada? Normally money has to be sent in the currency of the receiving account.

Remitly might be an option - that's what I use to send from my US bank to my Dominican bank. I send USD to USD, but they do support DOP.

Don’t know any bank in the US that will accept pesos ….you could transfer $USD from your account in the DR to the states , its the same in the states I can’t send $USD to my DR currency account , I would have to transfer it the US currency account in the DR and then transfer it over

@Tippj I send USD to my DR account, they automatically convert it.

My doesn’t plus  , my bank gives the worst exchange rate  , i usually withdraw and go exchange elsewhere and then Re deposit in the RD account ,  but the banks in the US still won’t accept pesos …according to the banks I contacted
