Moving to Portugal Jan 2024

gordpenney

Good day everyone my name  is Gordon and I am a Canadian that is planning a retirement/semi retired move to Portugal in Jan of 2024.  So I am looking for advice on contacts of experts to advise Canadians on residency and tax implications for Portugal.  I am presently working in the Middle East and have been a non-resident in Canada for almost 20 years so that is to add to the complexity.  I do receive a military pension and it seems from some of the info that I have read that that is open to be taxed additionally as well in Portugal.  One of my other concerns is my income that I have made in the Middle East is that open for tax implications as well.  . In addition, I would like to clarify  the pro's and con's of being semi-retired vs retired.  I have a vision of establishing a small consultancy in Portugal to keep me fufilled.  Many thanks for your advice

There is a Facebook group called Americans & Friends PT that has superb resources  - I know, - "Americans" but I see lots of nationalities :)    The FB group has an amazing set of up to date reference files on every aspect of the process.  We'll worth studying and watching the group for a while before posting.
