Singapore Work & Syphilis

HopeFULL17

Hi,

I've been offered a new job and expected to arrive in in Singapore by end of March 2023.

I'm currently working in the Philippines.

I have been diagnosed with Syphilis and got it treated immediately. Three jabs in the ass. I already secured a certification from my healthcare provider for this.

I know I will be required to take a medical once I arrive in Singapore and the blood tests might show a positive result since syphilis test will not show negative right after treatment. Will I loose my opportunity to work there and have my Employment Pass failed?

Kindly advice. Thank you

It depends on whether you are deemed infectious and whether you are fit for work.

HopeFULL17

My healthcare provider says they will provide medical certificate that I indeed received treatment. The infection should be treated but I still might test positive to the syphilis test (which is expected).

My healthcare provider says there are previous instances before and it should be okay as long as I have certificate.

I am just curious on other experiences here.

Are you certain you need a medical examination because it is very rare on an EP?

HopeFULL17

No, I am not sure about the process. Yes, I will be having EP and it will be my first time working in Singapore.

So for EP, it does not usually require medical examination upon arrival in Singapore?

@HopeFULL17To best of my knowledge for an EP a foreigner is tested only for HIV & TB. while a Work Permit application has to under go "The medical examination screens the worker for 4 types of infectious diseases (tuberculosis, HIV, syphilis and malaria) and checks if they are fit to work." from MOM medical exam. So, I feel your syphilis status should not jeopardize your EP approval. Besides you already took treatment, however, your previous medical reports will be overridden by the one from Singapore and they must declare you are fit for work. Hope you will be negative in coming time, all the best.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to add an update here…

I already mentioned that I received my treatment last Feb 2023 and my start date to work in Singapore was moved to May 2023.

My healthcare provider recommended that on my 3rd and 6th month (post treatment) I should take VDRL test again to see if treatment is working.

Thankfully, when I underwent medical examination (end of March), my result was already “Non-reactive.”

I already arrived in Singapore and confirmed with my HR that no required medical exam for EP holder. Thank you all for your comments and support! 👌🏻🙂

Same issue for me too. I'm from India. Diagnosed for Syphilis on Mid Feb 2023. Got treated with three doses immediately dose/week for three weeks. Initially it was 1:32, 1:16 on first month follow up, 1:8 on second month follow up. Healthcare provider says good response. But only difference is Work pass for me not EP like him. I know I will be tested for Syphilis after reaching Singapore, and ofcourse it will be shown reactive. Can I submit any certificate from healthcare provider that I was provided adequate treatment? Will they take me as fit to work and allow me in Singapore?

Shekhz

Not on work pass, unfortunately.

Hello I need seek more information about this, I was tested positive for Syphilis last November. And get treated after. Had 3 vials of Penicillin G, I supposed to land a job however this was happened and the employer had backed out since they can’t wait until my medication is done.

So I’m planning to go back there again this year since I’ve been offered some jobs. and I had to refuse all the opportunities since am worried about my condition. BTW, am planning to have a test again hopefully it’ll turn out okay.

My medication was done in Singapore  last November to December last year.
