Jamiechua

Hi,

Can everyone living in New Cairo please provide a breakdown of what level of life I have with a monthly income of 225usd vs 450usd?

Am I still able to rent a 1 bedroom in El rehab, plus pay for living expenses with 225usd?

@Jamiechua You would need to rent in Faisal or maybe haram or Nasr City, but it's difficult to find someone there who will rent to a foreignor.  They like to give foreignors a higher price sometimes, not all of them, and they also might be in a trouble situation if it's a foreign lady who invites men into her apartment or has a boyfriend.  I'm a Muslim and didn't have a boyfriend, so I was fine with the landlord.

Does it need to be at El Rehab? It's like coming new to California and wanting to live in Orange County or Belair = $$$$. Unless you have a job in that area, there are other neighborhoods in Cairo that offer a great combination of lifestyle and mobility within Cairo city center. 450.00 USD is at today price, 13,500 EGP which is not bad, if you can find a rent for about 3-5K so you can make 8-10K to last a month between day to day expenses, treat yourself to go out, gym, buy clothes and such but you have to take in consideration utilities and hidden charges as well - Also, the first rent you have to pay security deposit plus the first month, in some places they may ask the cost of three months upfront - Also, there are things in USA that you don't spend money on while here you do... Such as napkins, either to dry your hands after you wash them or to wipe your butt LOL! No such thing as free anything.

If you eat at a restaurant, you can easily spend (eating alone) between 90-220 EGP, not counting alcohol beverages IF they are available which can set you another 200 EGP or more. Spending your morning or afternoon at a cafe, you can spend between 60-150 EGP. VERY easily you can spend 1,000 pounds in a weekend if not more. At the other hand, you can buy groceries, fresh delicious produce and cook at home for very cheap, that is of course if your apartment have a functioning stove with gas and other appliances but even if you mostly eat home, you are going to be eating outside at some point or another and you can find places where to eat for cheap but the point is that money leaves your hands very quickly if you are not careful.

If you are paid in USD dollars, let's say weekly like in US or the rest of the Americas, that's a different story, you can live more comfortably and not being preoccupied but if you're paid in EGP once a month, as they do here, you have to watch how you spend your money. Hope that helps.
