Don't be conned into buying land in Bali

Fred

I keep seeing advertisements that make it look a lot like expats can buy land here - You can't

You can buy a lease, or other glorified rentals, but you can't own the land.

You can get a nominee agreement that shows an Indonesian citizen as the owner as far as the paperwork goes, but how do you take them to court if they decide to sell the place out from under you?

"Excuse me, Judge, I want to take this guy to court so I can prove my illegal ownership of the land".

Expats - Watch out for dodgy agents - If they say buy a lease, that's fine - if they talk about buying land to get you on the hook, walk.

If they mention nominee schemes, turn 'walk' into 'run'
