Digital Nomad Visa Question

andrewdud8

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to move to Spain with the Digital Nomad Visa. My company is headquartered in USA with 99.9% of our employees residing there as well. In the past year, we have hired a handful of workers (5-10) who live and work in Spain. Since your company as a "digital nomad" cannot be a Spanish company, does this disqualify me from this specific visa?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Andrew

Welcome to the expat.com forum and good luck with your potential relocation to Spain!

The DNV is a very new visa, so we're all trying to catch up on the exact rules. But, of course, it definitely won't apply if you're an employee of a Spanish company. However, I'd imagine your company might be perfectly willing to have you continue as an employee (or independent contractor) of the US entity... while you work remotely from a sun-kissed Mediterranean beach somewhere. :-) If so, this is a good way to go.

The more popular option (at least, until recently) was the NLV (No Lucrativa Visa). This requires passive income (rents, dividends, pensions, etc.) so your employment income (even from the USA) would not usually be accepted. However, you can also show savings instead of monthly income. So if you have 30k euros (or more) stashed away, then you could also consider this option. (If you can qualify for both, I suspect the NLV will be easier to get, easier to renew, and easier to qualify for permanent residence.)
