Postal service to Bulgaria

Is anybody else having problems receiving post to Bulgaria? When I say problems, I'm mainly talking about the time its taking to arrive from the UK. I was sent a card on the 17th April & I'm still waiting for it! Prior to Brexit, some things could take a matter of days, but the usual time was a week or 10 days. The cost to post items here ( over £2 ) makes this an unacceptable level of service.
Does anybody know who I can complain to? Thanks in advance!
@Jules999 Hi Yes we are the same we had a card sent in February and it still hasn't arrived also items ordered are taking forever. Let me know when you find out who to complain to but I would start with the postal services themselves
I think it might be on the UK side..I waiting 2 months to get a letter delivered but not to Bulgaria but to another country, my friends have waited a long time too , months, eventually they have arrived. (with all the postal strikes in the UK)
Same mess for France even with a sending offer including a tracking number. 3 months after it returned to France.
Poor postal service...
Last year letter received in 10 days .
This year almost 4 weeks tracking shows the biggest hold up is after arriving in Bulgaria.
When we asked at the post office they said to allow 3 weeks for delivery once it's in Bulgaria.
We ask friends and family to send anything for us to ggbg's UK address and they then bring it over, it's guaranteed to arrive that way, worth the reasonable fee.Cards take weeks otherwise or just don't arrive.
Oh yes, we are still waiting for documents sent from UK in November!
@Jules999 On average its been taking a month or two here in the North West, i would say if anyone has important documents to send from the UK I cant fault DPD/Speedy or DHL, who normally take around two days.
l have experience the same it's stuck at customs and sometimes they charge for you to get your mail it's brexit the gift that keeps on giving !!
@Truetomyself If its stuck because of customs then the sender hasn't completed the customs declaration properly, i have received car parts and other goods from Turkey, UK and China with no hassle, its also worth applying for your own EORI number.
@Jules999 yes. I sent a letter to the US in February and it has not yet arrived. I won't use the Bulgarian post service again. I've received documents from abroad with Econt which arrived within a couple of days.
Thanks everybody for sharing your experiences. I'm getting a tad fed up with the situation. I had some cards posted on the 14th April which arrived earlier this week, however another was posted on the 17th April, and the woman in the UK post office made my Mum complete a customs form ( for a birthday card?!#@! ) and that still hasn't arrived. Strangely enough, tax return forms seem to arrive at lightening speed!
Post from the UK
ha haha ahhaha !!! Sorry.
I get letters from the UK (Eg Uk Government Pension) About every six months after they leave the UK.
Some never arrive at all.
If it is a vital letter, use DHL. Cost a packet! But it works within days...
I'm in the position that l am waiting for a debit card to arrive posted by my bank four weeks ago still not received it only got a matter of days before my old card. will not be accepted then major problems with being able to take out money etc really cheesed off with it . Before Brexit no longer than one week.
@Truetomyself
Nothing to do with brexit, I have been here long before brexit, it has always been the same, I live in Nesebar on one of the new areas, they have 1 post woman that delivers for the whole area once a week on Tuesday, so now the Post Office text me when I have Mail and I collect it. I have found if you want to send a parcel from the UK use a company like, Parcel2go, I have not had a parcel held up by customs yet with them. You can choose which courier to use, don't pick the Royal Mail option, they are rubbish. I sent 3 parcels to BG from the UK, the first I used Royal mail then the 2 others by another courier I forget which one, but the Royal mail one sent 10 days before the others, the Royal mail one turned up 3 weeks after the two that I sent last.
@mutley
I have to disagree, we have been here long before Brexit too, and prior to Brexit ordinary post ( letters / cards etc ) would arrive within around the one week mark, I even once had something arrive within four days! I'm not talking parcels, just ordinary letters. I have since written to Bg post to complain & miraculously received a reply a few weeks ago. They say that since the exit of Great Britain from the European Union, ALL post must now go through customs, and it is customs who hold on to the post, and determine further checks & it's release, the delays have nothing to do with the Bulgarian postal service.

@Jules999 hi I went to Bulgaria from 21st June 2023 to 23rd July and I sent post cards from Sofia Varna Burgas and Sunny beach post card took four weeks to get to uk we’re do I make a complaint to. And my cousin when to Rome it took seven weeks to come what is going on
Yes unfortunately vit doesn't work both ways I've posted birthday cards from here to the UK five weeks in advance and they still arrived two months after .
Since Brexit the post is terrible what was taking five to seven days to arrive now taking five to seven weeks
Just another of the so called Brexit benefits those who voted for it will regale us who didn't with " rejoice, rejoice all mail from outside the UK will be delayed for as long as possible hooray.
There only answer to getting a quick delivery, is to use a courier, but they're not cheap. I use A1 Post in Varna and they can be very fast; I sent a packages of medication to my aunt in Weston Super Mare and incredibly, it arrived the next day! That cost 75 Leva, but, as the NHS is utterly hopeless now, it's the only way for her to get medication fast.
The other option is DHL, but they're even more expensive.
Hello,
I'm new on this forum, and to be honest I discovered it while looking to find away to get some magazine/ model car part works sent across from Bulgaria. I have collected the model in the Uk but was unable to get all the issues. it is now on release in Bulgaria . The publishing company (Fizi Publishing) have said they could probably supply me the issues I need (only 8 out of a 100) but only if I can send them to someone in Bulgaria & they could forward them on to me in the Uk? A real mess around in the Global economy we live in, but there you are, probably because we left the EU.
I have tried all over to get these issues & have come up against brick walls & scammers, I would be happy to arrange the courier pick up once they have sent them out.
Is there anyone who would be wiling to help on this at all?
I am on Facebook, if you want to see that I am genuine, Kind Regards Greg
Not related to letters but do you guys use delivery services, mostly used by Bulgarian expats?. For example, they pick up from a Bulgarian food shop in the UK and deliver to your local econt/speedy etc. They are usually pretty cheap (price is per kilo) and an excellent option for sending larger items back and forth.
@VillageLife
Gabieli and GGBG are the most reliable shippers for small packages to massive multi-pallet shipments I've used. They ship to/from BG and Ireland/UK/Spain/Germany.
Has brexit affected the time taken to get post.
I ask because I received a card posted from Ireland within 10 days but a card sent from UK took 8 weeks to arrive.
@mickg
UK post to/from BG has been cr*p for 20 years to my certain knowledge...
@mickg
Absolutely it has! Never had any issues pre-Brexit and now post takes up to 6 weeks to arrive from UK..
I 1st thought it was just slow bulgaria postal service.
@mickg
No, it's down to checks at customs now, and they determine the release of post for it's delivery by BG postal service.
Would it be the same time issue if items posted from within the eu to bulgaria as in my case from Ireland took 1/4 of the time than from uk.

-@mickg
Anything posted inside the EU don't have to the troubles with custom's. Anything posted outside the EU, has to go through customs.
@mickg
I used to have problems with my mail, but not now, they text me when they have someghing for me, and I go and collect it. They are a lovely bunch of ladies. they all know me by name, when they see me walk in, one of them even the boss lady, walks off to the room where the parcels etc are kept gets whatever is for me. No waiting. They are super ladies.
