Airbnb and PayPal

Hi guys. Anyone here had any experience with hosting on Airbnb and receiving payouts transferred to their PayPal account. I am specifically curious to know if Paypal charges any fees for receiving the funds from Airbnb.

PS: I read somewhere that PayPal and Airbnb have some kind of deal where the hosts are not charged to have their money deposited in their PayPal account . That is barring, of course, any currency conversion fees , or  international transfer fees.

Please advise

Hi Kawakasbah

You are correct; there seems to be some agreement between PayPal and Airbnb. If you list your PayPal account as the preferred method of payment on Airbnb, you will receive your payment within 24 hours after check-in, which I understand is better than the normal Airbnb payment time. As I have only ever used PayPal, so I cannot verify if Airbnb actually pays later.

Regarding charges, as long as you withdraw from your PayPal account to one of your designated bank accounts, there is no charge applied to the withdrawal. I have been using this system for nearly two years and have never had to pay any charges with PayPal or my receiving bank. I receive funds in PayPal in Sterling and transfer them back out to a Sterling account, so I have no experience with exchange charges.

I hope that helps :)

Great . Thanks Fentium.

that’s what I figured as well. I have been hosting in Brazil for few years now. The problem with payouts in Brazil is that one only has the option to receive the money in a Local Brazilian bank or PayPal. This must be a requirement of banco central for Airbnb to set up shop in Brazil. The only other option is PayPal. I guess I will open a PayPal account and link it to my US bank account. Very smart of both Airbnb and PayPal to gang up on Brazil like this kkkkkkk

As usual, beware of AirBnb tenants, and if the tenancy or lodge takes place at a Residential Condominium Building, you must to check the By-Laws of the HOA/Condo Association.

if you are going to be an absentee landlord, designate a person you can trust to pre-screen "hosts".

Also, on Paypal... This is a fact not known to all....   Paypal was originally founded to be a  "Payment Scrubber", a way to circumvent and enable payments to vendors without a Payment Processing POS ( the credit card machine ).

Early adopters on those days were all folks in the "Porn  Content and Sex for Hire Industry".   it eventually caught on on E-Bay, and Meg Whitman bought the processor out, to which at that point, it became legit.

This Meg Whitman...  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meg_Whitman

I got my feet on the data business first by selling Audiotext platforms ( those computers that ran 1-900 dial-a-smut chat lines ), and then in the Data Center ( my box and founder was a Born Again, and did not want any part to that kind of traffic, btw ).

The Voice guys ( Audiotext ) and those porn sites, they were always on a lookout for a "scrubber". The one who shall be obeyed, the wives, caught many a  hubby with a huge phone bill on 900 numbers, so these operators moved into  other forms of payment systems.

At that time, it was Paypal, a bunch of operators out of Suriname, Netherlands.  Some decent fellows and some shady types on this racket ( the 900 numbers ).

Oddly, it was AT&T 's Bell Labs who patented the technology, for legit purposes, so to help Service Bureaus and Customer Support Departments to recover the costs of providing after sales support. The shady types got a wind of it, and the rest was history.
