If i come to Thailand with a 30 days stay, can i extend this at Thai immigration in Pattaya?

Yes, another 30 days. Cost 1.900 baht. And the immigration office is in Jomtien, Beach Rd soi 5, not in Pattaya.

@Leeds forever! I thought entries from Australia get 45 days now.

Am I correctly informed? Can you extent the 45visa by just turning up at the Immigration Department or does One have to cross one of the Thai borders with a reentry visa.

No one gets 45 days. You only get a 30 days visa exempt which is extendable another 30 days at the local immigration office. 18-19 countries just get 15 days visa exempt and they can only extend the stay 7 days.

I had just recently a friend returning from Bangkok who told me that last month the 30 day visa for Australians was extended to 45 day. He obviously was mistaken.

It's a visa exempt, not a visa. Countries with longer permissions of stay without a visa have bilateral agreements with Thailand.
