Hi All

Just wanted to ask.....

Is it possible to exit Vietnam but not have to enter Cambodia and just turn around and reenter Vietnam?

Thanks :)

Ed Howard Williams

@JohnnyChristo not as far as I am aware, you need to physically leave the country, to prove that you need a Cambodian visa stamp to show on re-entry. Maybe you should try it and let us all know.

Not possible with any country, including in airports:

You can't get off a plane in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos or anywhere and try to make your way to your return flight without processing in and out of that country.

Vietnam requires you to have an exit stamp from the place you just departed before re-entering, and you can't get the exit stamp from Cambodia unless you enter on a visa or visa exemption and then leave again.

Aside from that, didn't you notice those Vietnam officers watching you closely as you exited the building going west toward Cambodia at Mộc Bài (as you mentioned in your PM)?

That's exactly what they are there to stop.

It's a matter of national security & sovereignty, and Vietnam (and virtually any country) requires that you totally leave before you are allowed to re-enter.

I hope this is helpful for you.

if you have some sort of a physical disability that makes it a great burden to exit Vietnam and go all the way to enter the other country and then exit and come back, you can arrange for a number of ways to get physical assistance through that process.

@OceanBeach92107 Hmmm fair comment jst trying to avoid the expense of a visa in cambodia for no reason. Worth the ask.

Regarding to entering without an "exit stamp" from your prior country, I will be honest: I don't know the procedures of control since many countries don't use to stamp e-Passports,

But regarding leaving Vietnam via any way: Focused in your described question:  Having international rules, the officer at the border cannot let you exit if you are not eligible to jump to the next destination(s) (similar in airports when they verify you need a transit visa).  I'm pretty sure my answer fits to you because Cambodia and Laos use to ask for a Visa practically to all foreigners but ASEAN citizens.

@OceanBeach92107 Hong Kong does not stamp passports on entry or exit, neither do many other countries where machine-readable passports are accepted.

@JohnnyChristo no.
