Hey Leeds, if my last comments came off rough I apologize. i dont judge what other people do with their own life. i was just speaking on my own behalf. i understand fully whats going on here but i seem to be in the minority.
Yes, you know your sht. translated n notarized. Now i must have it certified in us and do something else as well ad this whole thing takes about a month. i just ordered marriage cert back home.
I read that immigrations near jomtien and chon buri for drivers license are a breeze.
we are going to hire viswics for our convenience hopefully they dont muck it up. I hire lawyers and accountants back home so i dont mind paying if its fair price to avoid the pitfalls and not waste time for my convenience.
currently we each have bank account with bangkok bank. In us both of us can have access to our joint accounts and have bank apps to do transactions. so we assumed the same. bb said only she can have phone app, 1 card. if i need to access account i would need to log in from the computer only. i had to bring this computer into the branch. this is what i was trying to say.
@Leeds forever! We are not all True Thai handsome n smart like you my friend. Clearly you have buddha on your side go buy a lottery ticket. maybe immigration things are easier in pattaya? i was in Pattaya 2 weeks stayed at Renaissance the quiet part. also went to the italian wine castle looking thing. terrible food cocky service.
@Leeds forever! no i understand what youre saying but i dont speak a lick of thai and we just got here. simple things are not so simple but we are figuring it out. I can only compare to where we came from and this country is asnine. Many things are backwards here. Nothing makes sense and i am deathly afraid of becoming a dumbfock so i watch who i surround myself with. you seem like a smart one though! if youre in the area i will crack open a nice bottle of wine or whisky i brought from US. i would love to chat with ya as long as youre not narrow minded and 100% pro thai. otherwise stick with jack daniels.

Joint bank accounts are not allowed at immigration. The account must be in your name only. Don't say you opened a joint bank account??
If so, head back to the bank on Silom.

If you know what documents you need to be copied (3 copies from my passport, 3 copies from my updated bank book, my rental contract copied ,my TM30 copied and one copy from my owners passport) it's really a breeze at Jomtien immigration. Plus the TM7 form printed out and a 4x6cm photo. Done.
@Leeds forever! We know that now we didnt know before. so eventhough we married we had to have separate accounts now which we do. i also have to have 400,000 baht fir 2 months. so it ll be around christmas time
@Leeds forever!how about if i pay you 500 baht for me not to do it? 😁
-@davecndn
The only major differences between an extension based on retirement and based on marriage is the marriage license and 400k instead of 800k in the bank. (Don't forget that you need exactly same documents every year.) Plus it will take a while after you apply for the extension until it's approved. When applying for an extension based on retirement, I can fetch my passport next day.

-@davecndn
The reason for the bank account in your name is that you are applying for the extension, not your wife, and the money should be yours and transferred from back home. It must be a foreign/international transfer. Those 400k must be in your account at least 2 months prior to the day you apply for the extension. This is non-negotiable at immigration.

I don't see myself as narrow-minded and I will never be 100% pro thai. But I do understand Thai people and how it works here. That makes it much easier, even if it's a somewhat backward country. I also manage in thai and it helps a lot.
To be quite honest, I sometime get more annoyed with expats than with thai people.

If you now have a bank account in your name, don't you have the Bangkok Bank mobile banking app installed in your phone? Do you have a Thai sim-card? That's a must, otherwise you can't receive OTP's sent from Bangkok Bank. When you applied for the bank account, customer service must have asked for an email address and thai phone number.
@Leeds forever! Omg i missed something here. the miney must be international transfer? so i transferred money to my wife’s bb acct couple weeks ago. then she transferred money to my bb acct today. so this probably doesnt count then.
just to be safe i should transfer at least 500k baht from my personal usa account right?
@Leeds forever!
yes i have my own app now.
i also have AIS thai phone number(bill under her name. they say i have to have work permit)
i have esim American phone number and Thai phone number.
@Leeds forever! yes i can understand that. my apologies. like i said im trying to make things better for ourselves but some things will not change. im open to making adjustments and being open minded and flexible but do not wish to change. Im hard working over achiever and currently i do not care for thai culture much because I view it as very low class 3rd world country stuff with the prostitution and wanting money, double eyelid surgeries etc. i am anti prostitution, corruption, laziness, lackadaisical, scamming, get a job, work at where youre capable of doing, work more if you want more. i love sukimviht because there are similar farangs but i hate the females that i have to deal with there. freelancers my azz. i see alot more wrongs than rights here currently. maybe i will come around on some of this stuff. but im not gonna lower myself or lower my standards to ”blend in”

You dont need a work permit for a Thai sim-card. You register with your passport. Where did you get this nonsense from? There are no bills for a sim-card or do you have a post-paid sim? If it's a pre-paid sim-card you can top it up using the AIS app or your mobile banking app. Imo dtac is better and their subscriptions are way cheaper than AIS. Dtac's app is also better.

I'm actually not 100% sure the 400k transfer must be foreign. But the 800k for the extension based on retirement must be foreign, of that I'm 100% sure.
@Leeds forever!
Let's start with the end.
MFA (France) won’t notarize, because it is not a French document (the one from the Ministry of Public Health). I got confirmation today. No, other solution.
About the Thai insurances…
1. The immigration force you to choose a Thai company among a list (https://longstay.tgia.org/companiesoa) and no other.
2. Mr Prakan Insurances does not belong to this list.
3. They are terribly expensive for the guarantees they offer.
4. The one I have selected in France cost me less than 26 000 THB
5. I am covered up to 500 000 euros (19 millions THB) for almost everything.
6. Also, I have read mild reviews about these Thai insurance.
Finally, I will go back to my country. Even purchasing a ticket, will be less expensive than purchasing a Thai insurance. And I will apply for O-A one more time.
I try to take the best decisions with the information I can get.
What I have understood too and this was confirmed with some sources, there is different standards, according where you live in the country.
Immigration in Phuket and Chiang May seems to be much more “easy” than in Bangkok.
Last time, everyone surrounding me I have chatted with was complaining about the rudeness in … even the Thai lady accompanying her foreign partner…
Anyway, believe it or not, I am very greatfull for everything you have shared with me. Really. You help me to understand better how to deal with this.
@Leeds forever!
Yes... I apologize to have landed here on Pattaya Forum.
I looked for Non immigrant O-A visa on the website and I landed here.
But it was nice chatting with you.
You have been very valuable in matter of information...
@Leeds forever!
No. It is my second O-A.
Almost at the end of the first one, I have to go back to Europe. So It was easier for me to apply directly in the Embassy.
Yess, a lot of papers, but easy to get, for my point of view.
Why didn't you buy an insurance from a Thai company as I suggested earlier? I even sent you a link to Mr Prakan Insurances. Why do you make it so difficult for yourself? I said earlier, apply for the extension 30 days before the expiration date if shit happens.
About documents officially not mentioned. What the local immigration office asks for is more important than so called official documents found online.
"they asked for my bank passbook (the bank statement and letter done the same morning, were not enough…)
This is quite common at most immigration offices. It's not strange at all.
- My rental contract (not on the list, but fortunately I always carry one…)
A signed copy of the rental contract is quite common at most immigration offices.
- and the ID of the owner (I do not have this ID with me…)
A signed copy of the owner/landlords ID-card is also quite often asked for.
- And they ask me to draw a plan of the location my rental apartment is…
This is also quite common at some immigration offices even if it's quite silly. I've never been asked to draw one.
As I see it, the only problem will be the insurance, but if you're lucky MFA might notarize it. I have heard of people paying for the notarization, and I'm not talking about the official fee. ฿5.000 was mentioned once. Just saying.
Let's start with the end.

Go for a another O-A when you already have a bank account and the money needed in Thailand? Are you insane? Go for the 90 days Non-immigrant O based on retirement like the majority of expats do. You only have to buy an insurance for 90 days at Mr Prakan Insurances. The date of arrival will be the starting date. When in Thailand after 60 days you can apply for the 1 year extension based on retirement,no health insurance needed. Understand? If you want a health insurance in Thailand, you can get one after your needs and coverage. Who needs an insurance covering ฿19 million baht? You obviously don't know anything about hospital costs in Thailand. Even a ฿3.5 million health insurance is overkill, but better than ฿19 million. Why spend a lot of money for no good reason when you don't have to? You ask for help but you're doing the opposite to what I'm suggesting and I know what I'm talking about.
No one with half a brain goes for the O-A visa, and never ever twice.
Another thing, insurances at Mr Prakan works for every type of visa where an insurance is required. Mr Prakan is not an insurance company, it's a platform with different type of insurances from thai companies. The tgia-list have same insurances from same companies, get it?
Then you wrote this:
"I try to take the best decisions with the information I can get."
Really? Your decisions are the worst ever, not the best. Wrong visa and wrong insurance.
Well done. Don't take this wrong, but it's totally impossible to help people like you. I have given you the information needed, but you simply don't understand.
Insane + half brain… wow !!!
what are you doing here?
if you do not like people, just do not post.
yes, i clearly do not understand because i do not find the same information you mention here.
never forget the basics of sharing and education :
when you know, it is always easy
keep smiling
Leeds, not to take sides but he is right. it isnt very easy nor straight forward like you say. maybe in Jomtien. because my situation is different.
My wife also told me yesterday at the bank that she went to complain to Thai person because we were somehow magically constantly getting passed up. the number stayed at 30, i was 44 for 2 hours. my wife saw that other people were getting served first. the employee told her tgat they were chinese and they have chinese ees helpibg chinese first. shes thai so she has to wait for thai employees. my wife told her hey im thai citizen, we are in thailand, weve been waiting for 2 hours(showed her ticket) i have my son with me, you are thai, can you help me? miraculously our number gets called 10 minutes. jumped from 30 to 44.
im lucky to have someone. Just because Xi Jing Pin has easy life doesn’t mean its easy life for Macron.
@bratstvo do what you gotta do for yourself you know your situation best, good luck!
