British Marrying a Moroccan
Before Leaving the UK: Buy a folder and put these documents in it:
1. Certificate of no impediment (from local registry office in UK). This takes at least 28days, because they need to display a public notice of intent to marry for 28days. for my council this was £3
02. Police certificate (ACRO) This usually takes about 15 working days but can be longer. At the time i needed it, the price was £60
3. Birth certificate
4. Letter from employer stating salary.
5. Payslips 3 months.
Do my documents need to be legalised?
For some judges yes, some judges no. I didn't go out of my way to legalise anything that wasn't already legalised, the documents from the embassy were legalised at the embassy and that sufficed me. But I cant guarantee you will not need the other documents legalised.
Book appointment at British embassy in Rabat for a signed affidavit of marital status and a certified copy of your passport.
They'll require details of both people getting married.
Pay online and they will send you a link via which you will need to book an appointment, you will need to check everyday to see if any appointment slots become available.
These appointments are usually 3months later.
When I booked, the price for appointment, legalisation and translation to french was £80

You should also complete a Moroccan criminal record check online before leaving the UK, they can complete the checks and send the certificate to a local court to be collected by the partner who is resident in Morocco https://www.consulat.ma/en/criminal-record-foreigners
Locate a translator online close to your city of residence.
Send them copies of all documents listed below.
Ask them to translate to Arabic. Some judges accept French translations, some will not. But all will accept Arabic.
I was charged approx 200-250MAD per document which isn't great but is fair.

Send translators copies of all documents before you leave the UK to save time.
Tell them you will send two more documents once you get them from the embassy in Rabat and you will need them translated the same day. Send them pictures of the 2 documents from the Embassy as soon as you receive them via whatsapp.
In Rabat
Arrive in Rabat for an appointment at the British embassy to get: Certified copy of passport.
Certified affidavit for marriage.
Then go to the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Rue De Tetouan (street name), Rabat, for the certified copies from the British embassy to be certified again, by a Moroccan Govt official.
After this ministry of foreign affairs; make your way to the translator and show them all the original documents so they can authenticate and give you your translations.
Your folder should by now include each document listed below paper clipped to its arabic translation.
Make 5 copies of each document and its translation and make 5 separate folders containing 1 copy of each document.
1. Certificate of Islam (from a local Moroccan court advocate known as an Al-Adl).
2. Certificate of no impediment (from local registry office in UK).
3. Police certificate (ACRO):
4. Birth certificate
5. Letter from employer stating salary.
6. Payslips 3 months.
7. Certified affidavit Capacity of marriage from Embassy.
8. Certified Copy of passport from Embassy.
9. Moroccan criminal record.
10. Certificate of general good health by Moroccan Doctor
11. 6x Passport pictures.In your partner's city
Now you go to the family court in your partner's locality to show a family judge your current paperwork which by now should include the above documents. One of your folders will contain the originals, this is the folder you give the judge.
He will read them through and sign off. At which point the court will issue a document which you should make a copy and add to each folder. This document you need to take to the police, it permits them to start further background checks (even though you already have Moroccan and British Criminal record certificates), this may take from 5 - 15days, there is no certainty as with everything in Morocco.
Once this background check is complete, your documents are returned to the local court from the police. You will have to return to the court where a judge may ask you some questions like where you met and proof that you are a muslim etc and then FINALLY give you permission to marry.
You'll then go to a local court advocate known as 'Al-Adl' who will perform the ceremony, issue the marriage contract and apply for the certificate.
Finally, congratulations!
Make sure I get an invite to the wedding!
Certificate of no impediment (from local registry office in UK).
You don't need to obtain this in the UK if you also have an Embassy appointment in Morocco to obtain the Affirmation of marital status.
The embassy provide the Affirmation of marital status which proves the same thing as the certificate of no impediment. It's either one or the other, not both.
The problem for some is even getting an appointment at the British embassy.
If it was possible to obtain the Certificate of No Impediment from the UK that can be used in Morocco as it's the case for many other countries as many embassies do not provide this in Morocco, they obtain it before they come, then this would save a lot of time and stress for people. We are trying to make enquiries now if that is possible.
As for which other UK documents require apostle the adoul in the Moroccan partners city needs to advise.
Always talk to the adoul before coming to be sure of the requirements for documents for the city you will marry.
yes I’d agree, you don’t need the certificate of no impediment from a local authority, but as there was no clear guidance I just took it to be in the safe side. If anything, me taking it did confuse the judge a bit. But the judge is another story altogether.
Hello
Any help with the below will be greatly appreciated
I am planning to get married in morroco this summer Inshallah
I have most documents ready but struggling to find an appointment I will be in morroco for a month from 13 July, any tips on securing an appointment? Can I get the no
impediment certificate instead in the UK?
Also I live and work in Qatar will I need a police report from qatar or the DBS is sufficient? I have also heard of a certificate of residence?
Do you also have any good recommendations for Adoul in Rabat? is there a site that has a list?
Thanks
@AH3189 Also I live and work in Qatar will I need a police report from qatar or the DBS is sufficient? I have also heard of a certificate of residence?
It is necessary for you to request your partner to visit an adoul in Rabat in order to verify the specific document requirements. These requirements can differ not only between cities but also among different adouls within the same city.
The most reliable recommendation for an adoul would be from your partner's family. Someone within the family should have knowledge of a previous marriage and the adoul who facilitated it. Alternatively, you can search on Google using the keywords "RABAT + ADOUL" or ask your partner to visit the family court and seek a recommendation from the office there.
Regarding the exact documents needed, it is unfortunate that one person's experience may not necessarily apply to another person's situation. While a DBS check might be acceptable or ACRO and it may or may not require an apostille. Additionally, providing your criminal record from Qatar may or may not be necessary. Proof of residency is typically established through a valid residence card. Only an adoul can accurately answer these questions and determine the specific requirements for your situation.
Although I and others can provide a general guide, it may not be applicable to the adoul you ultimately choose. Therefore, it is essential to first find an adoul and obtain complete clarification on the documents they require from you.
@karim52 salaam brother. will the adoul need any other paperwork apart from the certificate that the judge gives for approval of marriage. my fiancé seems to believe that she will need to give the adoul her birth certificate, proof of ID. her birth certificate will expire by the time i go over next so just wanted to get that arranged if needed. thanks

-@MrT786
Yes she does, because the adoul writes the contract based on these documents.
@MA_O_Maroc ye i agree
Do i need to provide my birth certificate from the uk alongside all the other documents for marriage to the police or courts in morrocco?

The adoul and court where I am to be married confirmed I didn't need my documents from uk apostled and hasn't been needed since 2022. But always best to check just in case in the city/town where you will get married.
I'm going to do it anyway. Get all apostled. So much conflicting information.
I was the same which is why I went straight to the adoul and court to ask.
@mcglen262 so did mine, I'm in Marrakech. But still going to do it. Are you married now?

@Yasmin21
Hi 👋 Not yet, aiming to be in about 3 weeks time.
Process is so stressful isn't it?
Does anyone know how long the marriage process might take from start to finish. I'm hoping no longer than 3 weeks
@mcglen262 secretary at the court In Marrakech said two weeks. Inshallah
Thank you. I'm hoping the same length of time for myself. Good luck with your marriage plans
After recieving the affidavit in morroco, what is the timeframe to get the marriage done within?
does anyone know if it's easy to do walk in's for the medical check for a male? and also what does the medical check consist of?
@chapmotiv22
I'm female, but the medical check for me consisted of me sitting outside in the shade as the doctors office was busy, my finace showing them my British passport, telling them I'm healthy, and them writing on a piece of paper confirming full health! They didn't even see me! Brilliant!
@chapmotiv22 we walked into a private clinic, waited 90 minutes, doctor scanned me to check I'm not pregnant. Gave us a certificate for that with photo of scan to confirm. Then a separate certificate for good health which I said i was well when gp asked if if have any issues. It cost 400MAD
