Hello, Does anyone know if there are any registered massage therapists (RMT) in Las Terrenas? Thank you
Unfortunately, beyond a "yes" or "no," folks will be unable to answer your question. If we do, in fact, know of any, we are no longer able to make recommendations or even name businesses or professionals.
That said, I don't believe there is any licensing in DR for massage therapists. I know that some of the ones who are highly recommended in LT are self-taught through YouTube videos! That might work if you're looking for a relaxing massage on the beach, but it doesn't work when you have injuries, issues or need deep tissue or neuromuscular massage.
Hopefully, someone will know of one and will take the time to PM you a response!
Good luck!
They may know someone and will need to message you privately. We are no longer allowed to refer anyone publicly!
@ddmcghee interesting. They have allowed us to recommend lawyers by name and non-legit car sales people ...hmmm Where are these rules?

I've not seen the change documented anywhere officially, but it's evidently buried in the "Dentists in Punta Cana" thread
Perfect. Exact place one would look for rules!!
@planner I hope we can go back to making recommendations, do the folks that run the service realize they have introduced a policy that may kill off a lot on discussion AKA value? My question is rhetorical, however I always like your thoughts and hang on every word you say.... Hope all is well, Pax
Yes the lack of recommendation giving here has made this entire website expat.com sort of useless for me. And yet, here I am. It breaks my heart, because I really need some help right now in las terrenas with my property there that I have owned for 17 years. What a shame.
I was reading on the community posting board in the supermarket for a massage therapist when a young girl stopped by and asked me if I wanted help…. I explained I was looking for a massage and she said she was an expert, so I took her # I kept on reading and she asked again what else I needed and I said a cleaning lady and she said she was an expert… ahhh ok I said and kept on reading so she asked me again what else I needed and said a grounds keeper and sure enough she said she was the best , she was about 18 - 22 years old she was a professional in 3 trades … how lucky was I to find someone so skilled… never did ask about a license …. No didn’t hire her
@Tippj that's a big part of the problem with lack of licensing and regulation! As I've said before, if you have a hammer, you're a builder; if you bought throw pillows, you're a decorator; and if you have two hands and a bottle of lotion, you're a massage therapist!
This is one of the main reasons we rely so much on recommendations here!
I have brought this to the attention of the owner of this site! I have discussed how this is affecting this forum and those who can't me here looking for help!
His paid staff told me we can all message each other privately. Hell no. That is not acceptable to expect those if us with years if experience to continuously private message the same things when someone asks.
If that is the case who needs a forum!
I will continue to press the case. If nothing changes I am wasting my time.
@ddmcghee
Yes I agree w/you , I was leaning so much from reading the post here , that it probably would have cost me years of mistakes before I got some of those things right ,, now I’m not sure what is allowed to b posted , like if I mention a great beach in PPlata is Sosua going to lodge a complaint against the forum, can anyone mention where they can get a great watermelon 🍉 without another street peddler getting upset…..yikes 🙄
She where is the line?
This is all caused, supposedly by two issues. 1. Is persons pushing themselves or some other business for personal gain. 2. Supposedly some person or business has complained and so the owners are afraid of being sued. I do not believe that for one second. It's the internet and there is no local jurisdiction. And apparently moderators are not trusted to take down slander.
If you can rate companies w/ a star system on google or their own website (( ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ )
why would this site be so concerning… something doesn’t sound right
@Tippj So, this is a huge problem. Finding someone who isn't lying. I had a great house manager for a decade, then he died. The past 7 years have been hell. I need- badly- someone I can trust to be a caretaker for my house. i speak spanish very well. I know the country. I need a recommendation for someone in LT that can garden, clean my small 2 bedroom, and check on it to see if it's been broken into--I have a new light installed by a man I had for 3 months, who was living in my house and renting out the other bedroom and then- it go MUCH worse, a neighbor called, and I had to change the locks for the second time in 3 months. I knew him, not well, but knew him, for 5 years. He was a young kind bartender at a fancy restaurant/hotel in playa bonita . He was a criminal to me. SO! DM me people! I am not rich, I don't need an army, I can't afford a high end company to take care of my high end condo. Anyway, I'm also selling it because of the difficulty I've had for 7 years. And i could use the money. Let me know too, if any of you want to buy my beautiful little bungalow, about a five minute walk to playa bonita.
I am sorry to hear of your experience. I hope someone will private message you!
I do agree that some stuff on here isn't legit. We had a number of people recommend someone to help us find a car but turns out they had only heard of him and not used him themselves. I had serious problems with the vehicle I purchased, and it had been rolled back, and now I have heard that others have had problems as well. So, I am not sure what the solution is because the same thing happens on Facebook groups as well.
The solution is taking all recommendations and doing your ownresearch. In all cases here, one person's experience may not and probably won't be everyone's experiences!
This should be a safe place to discuss the pros and cons of everything! We should be able to share our experiences in a way that isn't slanderous and us respectful and we have to be able to discuss things as adults.
Sadly this appears to be taken away from us.
I am seriously disappointed!
Modaisky - case in point. I used this person several times pre pandemic with good results. I have recently heard a few issues. I am not sure now what is going on! If I hear anything more I will update if I can
yer know if someone or some place gets recommended on this forum or any other site in the world, it doesn’t mean it’s the gospel of god… but it is a starting point for an individual and should b questionable from the beginning before moving forward , but it’s amazing that now after talking about cars , restaurants , doctors, and towns , that someone got a bug up their A%# about be sued by an individual or company… which is laughable being that we even talked about that here and how that process could drag on for years and years and nothing happens…. What is some one left with , you can’t even say what restaurant you had a good meal in last night because someone might like their chicken grilled and some else might like it roasted….ahhh ok let’s talk about the weather…..it’s Hot…
Today hot and wet! Feels like temp of 108F in Santo Domingo
I totally agree with everyone. Just absurd. What is the purpose of a forum if you can't share? It's mind boggling.
UPDATE - to all who have been interested in this issue - I have spoken with the owner, Julien. He assures me that this has not changed!
We can RECOMMEND as we want to but we may not be promoting or doing advertising for anyone or any business!
So once again we are allowed to recommend and refer based on our experiences. Everyone needs to do their own research! My experience may not match your experience.
In addition we continue with our normal standards of not allowing defamation or slanderous comments. If you were not happy with a service or product then you should deal with it at source. Feel free to comment that you did not have a good experience, bur refrain from anything that can get us in trouble!
Just my 2 cents....I find recommendations here (D.R.) difficult because nothing is consistent. This is not a "consumer based" culture, so one person may have terrific service and another a nightmare. I will generally offer recommendations with caveats (i.e. your experience may differ). That goes for accepting recommendations too.
Every one has different standards and expectations… just because Larry didn’t like a place and Sue did just let’s you know if you’re going to go , keep an open mind….your choice
Hi everyone,
hope you are doing well.
Let's clarify and make everything easier for everyone: recommendations are very welcome on the forum, and we will accept all recommendations apart those coming from very new members, as they could be assimilated as advertisement, which is the only way to finance the platform.
This said, recommending the professionals you appreciate in the business directory will definitely help them on the long run (by the way we will surely review that section in the coming months, to integrate reviews. this has been discussed internally for years, but we didn't have enough budget to work on everything)
Please note that we won't accept diffamation, and promotion of external groups. this is clearly explained in our code of conduct and in the terms and conditions of expat.com
hope this helps
Julien
