Colombian girlfriend

zbren

Hi All,

If someone can assist me with this question I will be greatful. Im Maltese & have a Colombian girlfriend who's currently traveling around Europe & Asia.  The plan is for her to come & live in Malta from 2024. My questions are

1) If I'm her sponsor as a Maltese citizen can she also work at the same time? It would be a strain on the relationship for her to constantly be at home doing nothing?

2) If it's not possible for her to work she will need to find a job & get a working permit. Does the working permit restrain her from that company who applied for her working permit or she can change jobs in-between?

Thank you All

If you were in a formal relationship that had existed for a considerable time or were married then no problem but as that does not appear to be the case I think Identity Malta would treat her as any other TCN and she would only be able to reside here with the necessary job, work permit and residence card the last two being linked to the job. If she were to give up or lose the job she only has 10 days to find another and reapply before her residence card would be invalid and she would have to leave the country.
