Spanish Digital Nomad Visa - queries

bdstricker

Hi all,

I'm interested in the Digital Nomad Visa for Spain and I have a few questions, below. If anyone can help answer them, it would be appreciated!

  1. Do you become a Spanish citizen with this Visa or do you keep your passport of origin?
  2. Can you keep any assets held outside of Spain (savings accounts registered in the UK, for example).
  3. Does anyone have any experience of applying & using this VISA? If so, please share them!

Thanks, Bernard

Welcome to the expat.com forum and good luck with your potential move to Spain!

-- Visas are separate from your passport/citizenship, so you keep your UK passport if you get a DNV. The DNV is a residence visa, so you become a legal Spanish resident and most likely on the possible track to apply for Spanish citizenship, but this takes many years.

-- Similarly, visas are also separate from your assets and accounts. There is no requirement to give any of these up if you have a DNV.

-- I have no direct experience of the DNV, and it's a very new visa. This page from an immigration law firm should be helpful:

Another very popular visa is the No Lucrativa Visa (NLV). If you have a pension (or other passive income) or savings (of approximately 30k euros) then this might be a more appealing option.
