For reasons of personal safety please do not post contact details here.

You would need to pass an examination before you could be allowed to work.

You would need to speak the language too.

openoduor

@stumpy It is true , we were asking for an overview  guideline for materials , dos and don’ ts  in order to pass the exam. Of course langauge is also very vital.

stumpy

Just type "Luxembourg medical council" into your search engine.

There are sites there with information.

BRIGHTAKOTUAH

@ewanerosine55

hello please can you brief me on how you got to the ministry and the process you passed through before getting their response

BRIGHTAKOTUAH

Can you still get employment as nurse with an english background before writing any language exams

Lauranne

@BRIGHTAKOTUAH

Hello BRIGHTAKOTUAH,

If you are already a qualified nurse, it is very likely that you can obtain equivalency for your diploma and work in Luxembourg without needing to retake the Luxembourgish exams. To do this, you can apply for the recognition of your diploma, and you can find the procedure to follow on this website.

Normally, to work in Luxembourg, you are required to speak at least one of the three official languages at a B2 level (French, Luxembourgish, German). However, there is such a high demand for nurses right now that I think it is possible to find a position by speaking only English. In this case, I suggest you mention in your applications that you are willing to learn one of these three languages by taking intensive courses once you are living in Luxembourg. It is very possible that they might offer you a job and pay for your language courses, given the significant shortage of staff in this sector.

If you are not yet a qualified nurse, you can reach out to the university; here is their website. There is a three-year nursing program there. Considering the labor shortage, it is very likely that you could obtain funding to be trained in this profession. I think the university staff would be able to advise you on this. If not, you can try asking Adem (Luxembourg’s employment agency).

Which of these situations applies to you? Have I answered your questions?

Let me know!

Thanks @Lauranne

the first explanation best fit my position since i am already qualified nurse.

please can you walk me through the process i need to go through after i again employment.

Lauranne

@BRIGHTAKOTUAH

Hello BRIGHTAKOTUAH,

That’s good news! It will be easier in that case! Once your diploma is recognized and you have secured a job, depending on the country you are coming from, you may need to apply for a temporary permit in order to come to Luxembourg and then apply for a visa. You can find all the necessary information here and here.

In this sector, there is a good chance that the company employing you will assist you throughout this process to facilitate your arrival.

Hi Esther!

Sure! To be able to come work in a european country, you need to ask for a temporary work permit. Have you check this page of the guide?

You can also check this page to know more about the whole process.

Does this help?

Thank you,

Hi all, I am Esther a Registered Nurse from Nigeria and I'm currently planning of relocating to Luxembourg.

I would need some help concerning the diploma recognition process and also i would like to know if the requirements stating for a copy of the valid residence permit issued by a member State of the European Union is also same as police clearance certificate for those applying from Non-European Union Countries.

Please, those that have passed through the process should help ideas.

Thanks.

estherdstar

@Lauranne

Hi, thanks so much I appreciate.

I taught is after the diploma recognition and if given Job offer one can apply for a temporary work permit.

Waiting for your response.

Thanks

Lauranne

@estherdstar

Hi Esther,

It depends on your situation. There are two processes that can be done either simultaneously or separately: the work permit and the residence permit. If you have a job lined up, it’s easier, and you can apply for a work visa and a residence permit at the same time. You can also apply for a temporary residence permit, valid for 3 or 6 months, if you have the option to stay in the country. You won’t be able to work during this period, but you can look for a job and attend interviews.

The residence permit is the authorization to live in the country: it’s the document that says you are authorized by a European Union country to settle there. The criminal record check (extrait de casier judiciaire vierge) is a completely different document; it’s a paper that proves you don’t have a criminal record, meaning you’ve never had any issues with the police or been arrested.

I hope I’ve answered your questions? Don’t hesitate to check the official links I provided before, which cover all possible situations along with the necessary documents for each step.

Talk to you soon,

Lauranne

My name is Majory Chikanya. I am a registered nurse with over 5 years of experience. Currently working as a nurse in Ireland. I'm looking forward to move to Luxembourg. Willing to relocate even as a nursing assistant or caregiver and then commence nursing registration when I get there.

Hi..Lauranne im srilankan looking for health care assistant i have 15 more then experience singapore & my county, currently working singapore how to find job in luxembourg please let me know  thank you.

majorychikanya64

@Good morning Lauranne. As for me, I tried to send my Diploma of nursing for recognition and I was told that unfortunately they can not verify my Diploma at this stage as I obtained it outside EU. However, they said that they can only recognise the Diploma when one is already living in Luxembourg. So I am wondering how can I go to Luxembourg first so that I can start the recognition process whilst I am there already. Which pathway can I really use to go there first before I start the recognition  process. Please help. I am currently working in Ireland as a nurse

Lauranne

Hello everyone,

As several of you are looking for a job in Luxembourg as a nurse, nursing assistant, or health assistant, I’ll take the liberty of responding collectively.

@majorychikanya64 if you are currently working as a nurse in Ireland, did you have to get your diploma recognized there? If so, I suggest you contact the ministry in Luxembourg again, providing them with proof that your diploma is already recognized in Ireland, to see what they say. This might simplify the process.

Otherwise, it is possible to come to Luxembourg initially with a temporary authorization, which lasts for 3 months. Ideally, you should ask the ministry which visa you need to apply for in order to get your diploma recognized, and if you are allowed to find a job as a nurse in Lux  first, and have your diploma recognized afterwards. You should find out if you absolutely need to be a resident and already working here, or if you can apply for diploma recognition while coming on a temporary 3-month visa.

For nursing or health-related jobs, you can check the traditional job search websites, which you’ll find at the end of this article of the guide. I particularly recommend Jobs.lu, Moovijob, and the Adem Job Board.

I also strongly suggest visiting the government job site Govjob, where there are often job postings in this sector. You can also contact hospitals directly, such as CHL or Kirchberg Hospital, or the Centre Hospitalier du Nord. They always have a “jobs” page with their current openings and the possibility to submit spontaneous applications.

You can also consider retirement home, personal care service companies like Help, or medical laboratories (the two largest in Luxembourg being Ketterthill and Bionext).

I also recommend that you check the ANIL website (association for nurses in Luxembourg); you'll find many information on this website, including the steps to follow to come work in Luxembourg as a nurse with a foreign diploma.

Have I answered all your questions? Feel free to let me know if you need more details or if you have any new questions.

Thank you!

Lauranne

Hi everyone!

I discovered this website this morning, launched by the Luxembourg government. It’s a job search site dedicated to occupations that are in high demand in the country, like nurse or many other health care related jobs.

It’s a particularly interesting system for people from outside the EU, as they can then obtain a residencepermit more quickly.

I thought about you immediately when I saw it, so I'm sharing 1f60a.svg

Hope it will help you find a job !
