I have no idea that why my EP was rejected but when I checked through the EP online it show that I was been rejected. May i know that, My new company's Hr will know that what are the problem my pass had been rejected?

beppi

MoM does not usually disclose the reason for rejection.
But your company could contact them to find out more - sometimes they tell something, especially if it's an easy to remedy problem.

Hi Beppi,

1) What the below means?
2) and why company has this issue? with over 200 staff. (local)
3) how long it will take for the result if resubmit?

"application is not successful because:
We do not know enough about your business. if you are still keen to employ this candidate, please give us the job description, employment contract, the tendancy agreement of your main office and the CPF form 90 for the pass 3 months."
Thank you

J

1Eyemonk: This means that MoM wants to have more information about your employer, before they will decide about your EP application.I assume this is the first time they employ a foreigner on EP, right?
If they submit the information and documents asked for, MoM will continue processing. It can the  take anything between a few days and a month or more for the results to come.

Hi Beppi,
Need your advise about my case. I just checked this morning that my spass was rejected and my employer said that because of i've got adverse record in MOM. Actually In January 2015 i was disallowed by ICA custom officer to enter singapore because of my driving licence birth year did not match with my passport (mistyping by the person who issued the licence). However it has been solved  and i have already received the letter from ICA that stated i able to enter Singapore already and my employer will try to appeal. Please advise me is there any chance for me to get the spass approve? Thanks in advance :)

beppi

If the issue with your incorrect driving license was already cleared with ICA (I wonder why you showed your license to them?), then the "adverse records" are most likely something else. Your employer should contact MoM to find out - and they should also submit the ICA clearance letter to MoM, just in case!

VNA

Hi Beppi,
Thanks for ur reply. I did sent the ICA clearence letter to my employer for appeal and Actually I didn't show my driving licence to them, there was a spot check at the custom at that time so the officer checked everything that I bought in. If that adverse record will be something else then it's ridiculous because this case actually was just cleared in last month and afterwards recently I have visited Singapore for 2 weeks, if say I had done something bad during that time surely the custom officer will chop something  on my passport and got the bad record on it isn't it? Need ur advise again. Thanks!

beppi

"Adverse record" can be something that still allows you to visit Singapore, but not work here.
Have you worked here before and maybe your employer complained to MoM for any reason?
Or did you visit Singapore so frequently (and for long time) that they suspect illegal work?

VNA

This is my 1st job and 1st interview job in Singapore and the spore custom officer just let me enter without ask anything suspicious.

Praveenkumar_ICM

Hi Beppi,

I was going through the post and saw your replies to be helpful. Can you please help in my case.

I have got an offer from an IT consulting company in Singapore. and below are the details,

Salary : basic S$7250 + Variable S$1083,
Experience: 5 years,
Job description: SAP ICM Technology consultant (one of the rare skills),
Educational qualification: BE from a reputed university in India,
Never visited Singapore before or any other country for that matter.

My company has started processing my EP, is it difficult get an EP with above criteria?
(The self assessment tool says, I am likely to get an S-PASS or EP)

Your help is appreciated..

Thanks !
Praveenkumar

beppi

I think you are likely to have no problem with your EP application.
Since MoM only considers your base salary (without variable component), you are below the S$8000 threshold to be allowed to bring your parents as dependants - just in case you wondered (spouse and kids are o.k. above S$4000/month).

spacemak3rs

Hi Beppi

Thank you for your reply .
-You changed jobs too often. MoM dislikes job-hoppers and any period below 3 years in one company is seen as negative.

unfortunately i did shift job less than a year by the end of 2014 once because i got sick of dengue and force to rest , and the other is because i got bounce back again from dengue .

The company that want to hire me is pretty small , they don't seams have good intention at all, after signing up contract they ask me for a free lance work, and up until now they haven't pay the sum that already agreed upon 3K , and want me to pay for consultancy fee for the appeal as much 2K.

so there is no way i will get a job soon because of this bad record ?
its been almost 6 month now since my last job .

- You are suspected of abusing tourist visa. This is the most likely reason for your rejection. (But attending job interviews is normally o.k. on tourist visa ...)

when can i visit singapore again? as much of interview they want to see me in person and don't like the idea of video conferencing .
i just don't like the idea of being rejected again at the custom.

why only employee have the bad records? isnt there any complain section where we get to analyze and submit our complain about bad employer practises ( how some of their management really racist and they always treat their new employees like used clothe , why an employer have very high turnover,( u can clearly see this under jobs ads same old company that looking candidate each and every month ? )

beppi

Spacemak: if your employer is not fulfilling their obligations from the employment contract, you should sue them. Consult a lawyer to do so!
You can contact ICA to clarify your immigration record and correct any problems there might be.
And you can complain about unfair emplyer practises to MoM, which usually acts swify and decisively. Unfortunately, there is no law against racism in Singapore - so that alone is not sufficient for a complaint.

Mita Nguyen

hi everyone !
I am new here. someone can help me how to search the resuit for spass on MOM website .?
thanks ,

beppi

Go to MoM website -> Employment Pass Online (EPOL) -> Login to EP Online -> enter your FIN No. and Singpass -> see your status.
If you have no Singpass yet, you need to apply for one first.

Hi Beppi,

I used to work in SGP during 2008 to 2010 with P1 Pass. At the same time I got PR as well. Due to a project assignment Singapore Company sent me to overseas, where I stayed more than 5 years. Hence my PR got expired and I duly submitted to ICA. Till date I work in abroad for the same company as a consultant for past 7 Years. Very recently I got a senior position in one of the reputed company in Singapore and my EP is applied by them. However, the status is Pending inputs from vetting agencies.
I guess, MoM already verified all my documents in 2008 to issue P1 Pass. I surprise why again sent to vetting agency?  Is this normal? With this the EP will get approved or Reject?

beppi

MoM decides what to vet and when. Unfortunately their selection criteria are not published and unclear (to me at leat).
But having a PR and letting it lapse will definitely be counted against you.

Hi Beppi!

Sorry for troubling you!! I'm Msian Chinese, have been an employee of a Sg company for over 2 years, except between during my course of employment, the old HR lady reapplied my work permit (EP) to switch from the parent company to its subsidiary. My newest EP was only given to me last year but all else remains the same.

Recently I got a job offer with about 6k salary per month and mhy new employers will be applyin for my EP. Its quite a niche industry with multiple rounds of high-level interviews and I believe the head of the company at least 1-2 staff are Singaporean. Total staff probably less than 15. I have a MAster's degree and Bachelor's degree and universities are recognised too. I'm already serving my notice period. A couple of questions:
i) Just wanted to ask, do you think that the chances are positive for me getting a new EP frm my new employer?
ii) Will my past EP records (parent to subsidiary) affect my new EP application? Im nt sure if my old HR lady keyed in the right dates because my new EP was given to me out of the blue while ive been in the same job scope for 1.5-2 years
iii) Do they look at resume when they assess? Or is it just education, work experience, new job salary/package and employer?

Thank you Beppi!! Appreciate it!!

beppi

i) Difficult to tell. While your background is obviously o.k. (you already got an EP with that), the employer must also qualify, gone through the formal hoops (2 weeks unsuccessful listing on the locals-only job bank) and the job must fit your background. You'll only know by trying!
ii) It shouldn't make a difference. If it dies, due to a mistake by your old employer, you should be able to clear it up with MoM.
iii) They look at everything. (But please tell what your CV contains in addition to education and work experience?)

associategal

Thanks so much for being so prompt.
Basically I was hired under the parent company for a dual role position and was subsequently transferred to the subsidiary as soon as my job began specialising. Just that the HR dept never bothered applying for a new EP until much much later approx 1 year later because it's under the same bosses and management. My job at my current firm is very much related to what I'm doing in my new company.

My CV states exactly what's keyed in for my education section in the MoM profile portal. As for my work experience, it pretty much talks about the job/projects at my current firm as most recent experience(under subsidiary name), and there is also a section of freelance work that I do occassionally (very brief). I hope that's okay?

beppi

You are not allowed to do any freelance work while holding a Singapore EP, so I hope this was before you came here.

associategal

Hi beppi. Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, before.
No worries my new employer has submitted my EP application! So fingers crossed it will get approved. Most of my records/certs are already available in the MoM database so basically I furnished the remaining documents that are missing. Think the pass should be fine!

Anyway thank you beppi. You've been helpful throughout this forum!!

NaviQ

MNC has a higher chance of approvals due to the ways/ loop holes available. Package of Employment salaries.

EP does not requires quota and thus, it is definitely cost saving.

VNA

Hi Beppi, need your advice again. My employer did appealed for me with attached the ICA letter but still rejected because of "no quota" however my employer said will try to increase the quota and after that will try to appeal again. Umm what do u think about the increase quota? Is there any possibility? Do u know need to wait how long for overall process? Look foward ur reply. Thank you in advance :)

beppi

Sorry, since I don't know your employer, its quota situation and industry, plus hei justification for requesting a quota change, I cannot comment. But fact is that quotas are pretty much set in stone and a better way would be for your employer to fire another foreigner or hire more locals to make space for you in their existing quota.

Fjmm

Hi Beppi,

Just wonder if you know about this.

I have been working in sg for the past 4+ years and got an offer in the other company recently. My new employer is a startup MNC in sg with less than 10 employees.
They have submitted my EP application Wednesday last week and sent me the acknoledgement letter from EP online as well.

I check the status every day for the past 1 week (with application number, passport number, and also fin + app date) in EPOL, but it always shows "no record found". Is this common?
Does EPOL status normally show the update right away after application submitted or normally it takes time?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

beppi

If the EP application was submitted by your company manually (i.e. on paper), it can take some time to be keyed into the system (the approval process will also take longer in this case).
In addition, the EPOL system does sometimes (but rarely) show an incorrect status.

Fjmm

Hi beppi,

Thanks for prompt reply.
It was submitted online because the acknowledgement letter was actually printed from the EPOL website.
Could this possibly due to the application not processed yet?
Is there any cases that onlime application could take weeks or month without any updates?

beppi

Fjmm wrote:

It has happened before, but rarely.
Your employer should call MoM and ask for the current status. If it is different from what you see, they should then request MoM to update your data in the system.

orangegerm

Hi Beppi,

So my company applied for EP and it got rejected .the reason stated was adverse records.

I have in the past been caught shoplifting and I was left with a stern warning by the police. I was told that there wouldn't be any police record and it will be "hidden" and the details regarding me were noted just in case if I ever did shoplifting again there would be dire consequences.

Now does this constitute as an adverse record. Would this "hidden" police record perhaps come up during the EP investigation.

Regards,
Germy Orange

beppi

Difficult to say without knowing your police record. But if known to MoM, a criminal act like shoplifting might be enough to get your EP application rejected. (Learn: It is NOT a good idea to break any rule in Singapore!)

orangegerm

Thanks Beppi,

I guess there is no way around the issue. I was in fact wrongfully convicted of the shoplifting charge. It would have been noted in the FIR the IO wrote.

My employer has asked the MoM about the adverse record and they have been given the answer confidential. Is there no way an inividual be privy to information or adverse record regarding him?

beppi

In other countries, privacy laws would allow you access to all data stored about you, but there is no such thing in Singapore, sorry!

associategal

Hi Beppi,

My EP application was submitted 8 working days ago and it's still pending. I've read through some of the forum posts as well, and saw the tax clearance factor that could hinder the progress. My employer has lodged my last taxes and will be paying them, once the statement is issued (company policy). Could that be a reason? I've got good hopes for this approval, just wondering why it's taking awhile.

beppi

If you read related forum posts, you must already know that EP approval can take anywhere between a few days and over a month.
Tax clearance does not influence this, as far as I know.

Lovenbliss

Well, mine was applied 16 days ago and its pending.

Hi Beppi,

I would like to ask if it is okay to grab 2 job offers both to submit to MOM. At least, this has the half probability of still landing a job when the other is rejected.

Thank you.

This is called KIASU in Singlish - you'll fit in well, BUT:
Not in MoM's eyes, which will not accept the second application (and may reject the first). You can only have one work pass application ongoing at any one time!

Lovenbliss

I have a question. Do you think MOM sends email to your current employer when your future employer has applied for EP ?
