Lyon - changing direction car head lights (Hyundai i30)

Post new topic

EOB-1

Hello,

I need to change the direction of my car headlights and have been quoted over 3, 100 Euros for the job at one Hyundai dealership in Lyon.

This price  is obscene to me. Can anyone recommend a garage in Lyon or another solution to this issue.

Hey so i talked to the car owner and he said that we were told to change the lights aswell but we went to do the Mot  here "17 Rue du 11 Novembre 1918, 69320 Feyzin" and instead of changing the lights they straightened them out so instead of turning to the right they would turn slightly to the left (im not a car person i dont know which way is which 😅)  but by straightening the light out we managed to get the mot done and the car is legal. On the otherhand i was told that with some cars you cant actually turn the light so u might actually habe to get new ones. Hope this helped 😅

He said that he went to the volkwagen dealership and they gave him an insane price aswell

Thank you Sarah. i will follow this up.

See if you are able to buy the lights online, and find a independent garage to fit them.

Thank you. i have found lights. Now the garage.

When the control technique was last modified about three years ago, they removed the legal requirement for changing headlamps. Auto collants (headlamp stickers) will suffice. Our right hand drive car has them and it has passed two control techniques without a problem.

Hope this helps.

Following my previous post, our car is a Hyundai i40 so it has almost identical headlamps to th i30. Don't let any garagiste insist that you change them - they'll be scamming you!

Thank you Simon, i have the stickers and a CT booked this Sat. So i will take my chances.

Is this just for France?

Here's the final update on my Hyundai i30 Controle Technique (CT).

I fitted stickers to the head lights (from a UK company) but these were ineffective according to the CT garage. The CT garage gave me a certificate valid only until December 2023 - based on the lights and the number plates not fitted correctly (rivets required, I think instead of screws).

I obtained replacement headlights from a UK company (European Headlights) and took the car to this garage: recommended by a work colleague: https://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pros/00462644

This garage was able to correct the lights without replacing them and was able to issue a CT certificate valid for 2 years. The total cost was under 100 Euros.

In summary,  lights on my Hyundai i30 imported from the UK did not pass the CT (with or without headlight stickers) at first but it was inexpensive to have them corrected (not replaced) and in turn pass this test.

PS the garage which fixed the lights was Renault Garage de Rochecardon, Lyon.  They were very pleasant and spoke slowly at my request.
