Hi everyone,

i am relocating to Portugal and we will be looking for a flat to rent.

do expats usually rent unfurnished or furnished flats ? What did you choose ? Any particular points to be aware of or diligent about?

The answer obviously depends on several criteria and each one’s choices/situation/context but good to know I suppose what choice is usually made.

many thanks !

Hello,

Renting a furnished place can be a convenient option, especially if you're planning to move temporarily or if you don't want the hassle of buying furniture. Here are some advantages of renting a furnished place:

1. Convenience: Renting a furnished place means you don't have to worry about buying and transporting furniture. Everything you need is already provided, making your move-in process easier and smoother.

2. Cost-effective: Buying new furniture can be expensive, especially if you're on a tight budget. By renting a furnished place, you can avoid the upfront costs of purchasing furniture and save money in the short term.

3. Flexibility: If you're unsure about your long-term plans or if you frequently move around, renting a furnished place gives you the flexibility to relocate without the burden of moving heavy furniture. You can easily transition from one place to another without the hassle of packing and unpacking.

4. Time-saving: Renting a furnished place can save you time that would otherwise be spent shopping for furniture, assembling it, and arranging it in your new home. You can focus on settling in and adjusting to your new surroundings instead.

5. Style and comfort: Furnished rentals often come with stylish and well-maintained furniture, allowing you to enjoy a comfortable living space from day one. This can be particularly beneficial if you're not confident in your interior design skills or if you want a hassle-free living arrangement.

However, it's important to consider your specific needs and circumstances before deciding to rent a furnished place. Evaluate the rental costs, duration of your stay, and any personal preferences you may have.

Hi milkshakesbore0b,

As you're of French origin, I assume you speak French. There's also a French-language forum. There are many regular members there to help you with that too.

Furnished apartments are harder to find, specially comfortable and good looking ones. Many furnished apartments are done with the landlord old furniture and not very welcoming.

Locals usual rent unfurnished and some even without appliances.
