I have recently read a report that China is relaxing its visa regulations and allowing older Westerners to stay and work in China.  I know you have to have a useful skill (such as teaching) and retain a level of good health.    Anyone else know of this?

I hope it can happen.

I saw this article that sort of went viral on all the wechat english news sites. As usual, sometimes information like this is twisted out of proportion and incorrect.

The article touts that one small city had been lenient in regards to being flexible on age acceptable for applying for a work permit, ignoring male retirement age. They seemed to advise this was a new and novel way of approach. It is not:

Cities entry/exit and FEB have always allowed for flexibility based on different factors such as the seniority of the applicant, the level of education, the tier of the city and need for hiree. Usually the times we see someone over retirement age hired its by a university and the applicant is listed as a very high level part of the management team.

As the article suggests, the FEB/Entry/Exit/Immigration are always generally flexible as long as the supporting details for the hire clearly outline why that person should be hired after retirement age. This is true, however most people dont meet the standards of high level talent/senior management.
