Medical Issue

Post new topic

My friend recently arrived in KSA and is in the process of bringing his family. During a medical examination in their home country, hepatitis C antibodies were detected in his wife. Subsequent advanced tests confirmed the presence of antibodies only, indicating that the virus is not active. This was verified by medical professionals in their home country.

Could you please advise if, upon her arrival in KSA, undergoing a medical test might pose any issues regarding obtaining an iqama? Your guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated

Nothing to worry. I tested positive for Hep B surface antibodies anti-HBs. Hep B or C antibodies indicates that a person was infected with the virus before at some point and her immune system fought the virus and now developed the immunity and cannot be infected again or pass it to others.

She will always test positive, but let her keep the blood test results as a proof that she is free of the virus and have only antibodies which is a good thing.

@Batman_too what is the procedure to get the iqama in this case in KSA

When your friend's family arrives in KSA, she needs to take Iqama medical tests. My friend has to drive her family about 45 minutes from Riyadh for the test. I don't know the name of the hospital, but they tried to get medical tests here in Riyadh, but they have a particular hospital for family.

Let me clarify from a medical perspective as I am in the healthcare field.

The real test in an Iqama medical (and indeed elsewhere in the GCC) is HBSAg.  Anti HBS (or HBsAb) only matters for food handlers, healthcare workers and other types to assess if they are vaccinated for Hep B as   Anti HBS is a test of immunity (past disease or vaccinated). So the fact that you tested positive for this, doesn't matter at all because it doesn't necessarily indicate a past infection.   It is only an issue if HbsAg was positive.

Secondly, OP is asking about Hep C.  This is different from Hep B in terms of test.   I had already answered him on a separate thread.

But to keep it simple, Hep C antibody positive leads to refusal of Iqama in cases of work visa.  For dependent visas, it all comes down to how much effort his company will make in trying to get an exception.  Usually, it is not an issue.
