@Julien hello Sir, my name is Sarah Kamara a Sierra Leonean currently living in Sierra Leone, I'm 27yrs and I had obtain a diploma in business administration and a certificate in population study with a four years Job experience as a receptionist. I'm a cheerful,Ā and hard-working individual that love meeting new people.
@sarahkamara0001
Hello and welcome on board !
Could you please tell us the purpose of wanting to move to Singapore ?
Regards
Bhavna
@sarahkamara0001 Welcome to the forum!
We have here, spread over many discussions, which you should read and follow, lots of advice on finding a job in and moving to Singapore.
In the end, your chances depend on whether you can convince an employer that you are the right person for the job (despite the added complexity of hiring a foreigner, about which you can also read on this forum). What are your unique selling points in this respect?
@beppi I'm a highly motivated individual who is hard working, confident, flexible and helpful with exceptional interpersonal skills, like meeting new people and taking new adventures. I want to move to Singapore in search of a job and because I have always love Singapore. It's will be of a great privilege if I'm able to get a job in Singapore.
@sarahkamara0001 Well, although I see no sought-after skills in your message (only those would give you a chance for a job), I wish you good luck. But do follow job search advice from this forum!
Anyone can claim that they are
- highly motivated
- hard working
- confident
- flexible
- helpful
- exceptional interpersonal skills
- like to meet people
- like to take new adventure
There is no well recognized certificate of highly motivated or confident for individuals.
These are not selling points.
@sarahkamara0001
Hello Sarah,
I think as expats/foreigners who live in Singapore, we have a moral responsibility and we should be courageous enough to tell you the reality on the ground.
In my opinion, for foreigners (westerners, Africans) who want to come in Singapore to settle and work, it's better to:
1) be transferred by your current employer here (international company that has an office in Singapore), or
2) follow your spouse who got a job here or was transferred by his/her company, or
3) look for a job in Singapore from where you're currently living, once you get a job you move here
But planning to come here with no job, alone, with no income, and start to look for something here, I think it's not a good idea.
It's has become very, very , very complicated for foreigners to find jobs here. So yes think carefully.
Best,
Sephora
Hit the rubber on the road, very sound realistic advice indeed...Anyone can say they 'love' Singapore but the reverse may not be true...
@Julien I am Doctor Ruben. A PhD holder in Petroleum GĆ©oscience with a profound background in Ethics and Corporate Governance. Hope to be in Singapore in two weeks time. I'm coming just for a meeting but hoping to get accomodation from any friend. Thanks and kind regards
@rubenkumkudi
Hello and welcome !
I don't think members will offer you accommodation. [wrong info edited]
All the best
Bhavna
@Bhavna Sorry to contradict you, but AirBnB and similar methods of renting rooms from private apartment owners for short-term stays are not allowed in Singapore. In fact, renting out residential property for periods under 6 months is generally forbidden here.
@rubenkumkudi Do not trust anyone offering you private accommodation - they are more likely to cheat you than actually offering illegal rooms!
Booking.com is a good idea. Hotels have a price, of course: The cheapest, at S$100/night, are very basic - better budget S$150/night or more to get something acceptable.
As a PhD holder and have profound background in Xxx etc. And yet you cannot afford hotels or at worst hostels or even Single cubicles in Singapore tells me lots about your credentials...and so called 'backgrounds'....however, you may have private reasons for wishing 'free' accommodation..
@Swee Loke Please note that Rubenkumkudi comes from Cameroon (according to his profile), where the average income is below 2000USD per person PER YEAR. I think it is understandable that he wants to avoid hotels that cost an average monthly income PER DAY.
Therefore, you should be a bit more culturally senitive - be glad that you, as Singaporean, are among the richest in the world (average income 70 times that of Cameroon)!
Hello. I am Knot.
I am Thai. I used to work in Japan and the US before.
I am waiting for my work pass approval before moving to Singapore.
Nice to meet everyone here.
@beppi Thank you. My EP already approved. Next I have to look for the place to stay. Do you have any recommended area?
With regards to area to live in, it greatly depends on your personal preferences (and budget).
Obviously, it would be good to be near your workplace. Or, if you have kids, being near their school would have even highee priority. Anyway, Singapore is so small and well-connected, that location is of less importance than finding a place you like.
@Julien
Hi Julien
I'm Moses
And i need to move to Singapour but i don't have any contact there, that why i need Ć help from forum members
@mmuhemedy Julien is the site owner and lives in Mauritius. It is unlikely that he can help you.
But lots of help, in the form of advice given on how to do things, is already available on the forum - and I encourage you to read and followas much of it as possible.
If you then still have specific questions, which weren't addressed on the forum already, you are welcome to come back and post them here. Some forum members (possibly me) will then try to answer them!
It would also help to know more about you, your education, skills and work experience (in case you want to work here) and why you want to move to Singapore.
This is Sara from Ethiopia.Ā Am 21.
I was there for my holidays and loved the country.
is there have any job which i can get to work and live there??
@saradanieldogiso Depending on your education, skills and work experience, there might or might not be jobs for you in Singapore. Do some research to find out about the local labour market in your line of work - or tell us more here about what you can and want to do. But please keep in mind that "any job" does not work in Singapore: You will only get a work visa for jobs that no local person can or wants to do!
I love children and to experience the country.
I am competent in child care, housekeeping, gardening, car washing, marketing, and other household tasks. In addition, I successfully completed my cookery course with no issues.So I am look to be as a domestic worker, also cleaner too. if you need domestic worker or if you can get some place please donāt hesitate to contact me.
thank you!
