Hi, My name is Mel and I am a English born Australian citizen, now picking up sticks and moving to Astypalaia (Dodecanes) in a week. I have a long stay visa and am spending a year there researching my possible retirement options.
I've noticed that there don't seem to be many Australian (or other) Expats living on the smaller islands. Is there any particular reason you could share?
Thanks
Kalimera

Good afternoon,
we were planning on moving to Portugal on retirement next year from the UK. we do however prefer the greek way of life and Crete looks fantastic.
i have a medical condition that is helped by the warmth but we had ruled out Crete because of the varied winter weather reports we have seen saying it gets very cold.
we would love to hear from anyone that lives on the island that can give us truthful views of what its like in winter.
It will be great to hear from anyone that can help.
Thanks
@Julien
Hello
I am Haluk from Turkey. My wife and I are planning to live in Kalamaria near thessaloniki.
We are retired and planing to enjoy this beautiful country.
Have a nice day to all.
@Nikborda28 Hi. First of all, what type of visa/ residence permit will you be applying for? Greece has recently increased the FIP monthly income required, to €4200 for a couple.A Gokden Visa property will cost 400/800 depending on area. A financially independent visa/ permit in Portugal asks for much less. (You may of course know this already!)
We moved to the Peloponnese for my husband's health- the Summers are long & hot ( too hot at times). Winters are short and fairly mild but can be very chilly at night. Get a house with central heating if you can. Good Luck with your plans. Hopefully someone can advise mire on Crete.
@GuestPoster70 Hi, I you would like information about retiring to Greece I would be happy to share my journey.
Please, feel free to contact me. Best regards, Marcelo
