Public transportation in Zurich

Armand

Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in Zurich ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed?
What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in Zurich?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Hi Armand
such a pity you never got a reply to your questions.
So, here goes:
Public transportation in Zurich is VERY easy. the network is second to none and very punctual.
The price depends on the area: it's calculated by "zones" (not per trip A-B): 1)local zone 2)local zone + surrounding zones 3)local + surrounding + regional zones. Within these zones you can use ANY means of transport with the same ticket, i.e. bus, train, tram, boat, cable car, etc. generally speaking, the costs of a monthly or yearly ticket is quite high but in general, public transport is easy, reliable, safe, clean, punctual and comfortable.
There are various types of tickets for one day, one week, one month etc etc.
In fact I suspect that the reason why you never got a reply to your post is that it is so easy it is probably a "non-topic" for anyone who moves here

Hi Swissagain!

Good to know that transportation is easy in Zurich.
This was for future expatriates who have no idea about the place.
Thanks to your reply, doubts will be cleared ;)

Public transport is not only excellent in Zürich, but anywhere in Switzerland: frequent, reliable, clean, safe. Unfortunately it is also typically Swiss in one other aspect: it is not particularly cheap... Particulary standard single and return tickets are expensive. On the other hand, season tickets are relatively good value for money. A half fare card is almost a "must" if you travel by public transport a bit more freqently. Do as the Swiss: 1 out of 3 has a half fare card, 1 out of 16 has a all-Switzerland season ticket. The rest of the Swiss is probably under 16 (then you don't need a half fare card to travel at half fare) or hardly ever travels.
