Thank you for your insight and helpful input.

If you moved to DR from elsewhere and now DR is your permanent new residence, what do you do about your address you have listed with your US based bank?

I too would like to avoid all the hassle and save me the frustration you mentioned one may potentially encounter if one is not well informed. Hence, the awesome value this forum for the DR expat community may benefit from.

Thank you. So if I'm understanding correctly, you'll need (2) accounts, a dollar account and a peso account. Do you know if they would link both accounts to one Debit/ATM card and when at the ATM machine you are able to select which account you want to withdraw from?

Or

You will need (2) separate Debit/ATM cards for those (2) accounts?

Thanks

@Christopher David56 I read all the posts in this thread and here is my scenario and question. I have SSA disability direct deposited into my US bank checking account. Do you or anyone know if Banco Popular charges any fee or tax if you deposit checks from your US checking account into a Banco Popular Dollar Account? Also, does Banco Popular charge any fee when you withdraw funds from your Banco Popular account via their ATM's? I appreciate all answers. Thank you.        -@Nanosaso

BPD does not charge any fee for you to deposit USD checks into your USD BPD account, nor to withdraw USD in cash.

I don't have an ATM card for them.   I use a Schwab card for ATM's here.

Thank you once more. I have a novice question as I have no past experience on making this type of banking transaction.

How do you write yourself a check from your US checking account so that you can deposit it into your BPD account?  Please be specific by that I'm basically asking what do you write on the check's pay to the order of ?

Can you make these BPD deposits on monthly basis? Also, do you know if BPD is equipped with the digital ETF where one may take a picture of a check and digitally deposit into one's bank account via their bank's mobile app?

Makes the world so much more convenient instead of physically going to the Bank to make the deposit.

First checks can be held up to 30 days. Normal is 7 to 10.  Once this happens regularly it's more like 3 to 5 days!
