I am right now in Thailand, holding VN TRC (TT by mariege) valid until 15 Jun 2024, my passport expires on 15 Jul 2024 (5.5 months left).

Do I get any troubles on immigration checks (both sides Thai and VN)? My embassy didn't provide any information and said it's by fortune.

It is still January, renew your passport, then renew your TRC.

@Mac68  That's not too fast with my Embassy (at least 1-2 months) :(

Your profile states "Vietnamese citizen".

Which country's passport are you travelling under?

The 6-month passport rule enforced by most countries states that your passport must be valid for another six months before you depart for international travel. Depending on which country you are travelling to, the six-month period may begin from the date you leave that country or the date you arrive.

However, not all countries follow the six-month requirement; some countries require that you have a passport with a three-month duration period. This requirement changes based on where you are travelling and sometimes even based on your nationality. For this reason, it might be wise to renew your passport or check with your embassy or consulate regarding requirements. There may be exceptions but my understanding is that Vietnam, like most countries, strictly enforces the 6 month rule...simply to avoid any hassle of having to deal with a foreigner who is unable to travel because their passport expired while in country.

Vietnam is even slightly more restrictive with respect to issuance of DL (tourist) visas.

For a Vietnam eVisa application (and others VN visas?) to be considered for approval, a passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond/past the final validity date of the visa being applied for.

I'm not sure whether this restriction on entering VN would have any bearing in the case of the OP, moldis, as they already hold a valid TRC (TT).

Waiting to hear back from the member on which country's passport they are travelling under.

At least with US passports, doesn't the TRC or VEC already have an expiration date 6 months before the end of the passport expiration date?  Surprised that the OP's is only one month difference.
