In 2024 Riyadh are there still advantages in expat compound living ? Considering price difference to non-compound rental, security, amenities etc

@ZR0907 good day!

I will be moving to Riyadh in a couple of months and im also looking for one bed apartment. im relocating with the same company to a new role from Dubai.

i will kindly appreciate if you could share your findings about the prices and accommodation. Also, how much is one bedroom bungalow at Seder village - was looking at that compound online.

Our offices are in Kingdom tower in Olaya - os the traffic bad to get from that compound to Olaya or central part of Riyadh?

I will be moving alone to Riyadh, my daughters will stay in Dubai with my ex husband.

Will appreciate your guidance.

thank you,

Yulia

I’m supposed to be relocating to Riyadh from the UK by the end of this year, but after contacting a few compounds about accommodation, I’m seriously reconsidering the move. The prices are absolutely ridiculous, and the options don’t even justify the cost.

First off, it’s nearly impossible to find a modern place close to amenities in Riyadh, regardless of the price. The only viable option seems to be living in a compound, but even then, not all of them offer the lifestyle or comfort you’d expect for the asking price.

For example, I checked out Al Nakhla compound, and their one-bedroom units are the size of a shoebox, yet the monthly rent is over £3,000! On top of that, it feels like living in a prison with the amount of control they exert over how you live your life.

I also looked into Anatara compound, where the rent starts at £3,000 for a one-bedroom unit. Again, it’s absurdly expensive for what you get.

And then there’s Al-Bustan, which charges over £3,500 for a one-bedroom unit. They act like they’re doing you a favour by letting you live there, but with the strict rules on visitors and how they control every aspect of your life, it’s more like paying a fortune to live in a very expensive prison.

At this point, I’m just wondering if anyone knows of modern apartments with a balcony, close to a gym and other amenities, that aren’t necessarily in a compound? I’d appreciate any suggestions because the current options are really making me reconsider accepting this job offer.
