Hello, You should try a different browser on whatever device you are using. There are lots of official sites that don't react well to certain types of security or ad blockers that you may be using. -@Max Plank
Using a different browser will not help our new member, ourayphotography.
Members of expat.com, as well as casual readers of the forum, take note.
The fact that the member had received a denial/amendment-request tells us that...
- 1)both their application and their payment had been submitted, received and accepted
- 2)their application had already been reviewed, and subsequently denied,
and
- 3)they had been issued a "Registration code" with which they are able to check the status of their application.
The denial notice received by the member stating "Use international character as in ICAO line" indicates an error in either the Surname*, or the Given name*(s) (or both) on the member's initial application (i.e. spelling, extraneous tab/spaces etc).
@OceanBeach92107 Oh dang, my type mistake. It matched my passport. ha, I will edit

Aren't you scheduled to depart tomorrow?
You might want to consider using the services of a known, trusted local VN visa agent.
I'm applying for a vietnam e-visa and my surname has a hyphen. How should I represent this?
i.e
Surname= JOHN-SMITH
Given names= MIKE NELSON
ICAO Line= JOHN<SMITH<<CHERISH<NELSON,
Do I write it as JOHNSMITH or JOHN SMITH?

Hi there Lampis Schn. Welcome to the forum.
Your first submission was absolutely correct.
Surname SCHOINAKIS
Given name CHARALAMPOS
I'm assuming you do not show a middle name on your passport, just your family name and your given name.
We've seen a couple of examples where an application has been rejected due to incorrect name format, only to be accepted later when resubmitted using the exact same name format. The immigration officers reviewing the thousands of applications may have misread your initial submission and rejected it.
Resubmit using your first format. I'm betting you'll be fine.
Please let the forum know the results of your resubmission.
edit: don't worry about the number of rejections you receive, so long as you have time remaining before your flight. There does not appear to be a limit to the number of times an application can be amended, with one member having amended their application 12 times before being approved.

Hello, thank you very much for your answer
I already re-sumbited it with my Surname as Given name and my first name as Surname - let's see what happens
If they reject me agan, I will do it again like the first time and hopefully they will accept it.
Either way I will let you know about the results.
Thank you very much for your time

I hope you are doing well. I just granted my visa with the below way I explained. I just swap my first name with Surname and Last name as Given name😅
I hope it will work also for others and can be helped from this.
Thank you so much. I hope you have a great day ahead.

Great news, and thank you very much for reporting back to the forum!
Your profile shows you as currently living in Vietnam. Is this correct?
If you'll be entering Vietnam via an air route the only issue I'd be concerned about would be with an overly cautious airline denying you the boarding of your flight due to your eVisa not matching your passport. I'd suggest you contact your airline for confirmation that they'll accept the eVisa, as is. See post #1, here.
@Aidan in HCMC
Hello,
Thank you for the heads-up
Actually my full name is correct in my e-visa pdf (CHARALAMPOS SCHOINAKIS) my given name is first and then my surname.
So do you think that I need to contact the airline still?
Thanks in advance,
Lampis
If I understand correctly, the eVisa has your names in the reverse order of how they appear on the ICAO line of your passport (though they appear as they would if someone were to ask you what your name is).
If so then yes, absolutely contact your airline to confirm that they will permit you to board your flight. Airlines operate out of "an abundance of caution", making sure that all their bases are covered. The reason for this is that in the (unlikely?) event that you are not granted entry through VN immigration upon arrival, it then becomes the responsibility of the airline to return you to your flights point of origin. Airlines view this as a "profit leak".

How did you get you visa
@Aidan in HCMC
Hello,
I contacted them and they told me that:
Travel document policy is not set by the airline. We just follow the rules of The Immigration Department and update the information on our website. In case the passengers need to check if their travel document is eligible for flights or not, they must reach The Immigration Department. When you're at the airport, not only the airport staff (from the airline) but also the security check (not from the airline) will check your travel document. We just help the passengers to from the departure to the destination that they'll take with us. Everything about the travel document required, they must reach the relevant departmnents to ask and prepare it enough. We're unable to check if it's eligible or not.
-------------------_-----------------------------------------------------------------
So, the Immigration Department is the one who need to check it but they accepted the evisa from the beginning right? So I suppose that I will be ok??
I don't know I think I tried everything.. And also they rejected my application when I try to put the correct order of my name.. So I guess I am safe that way??
I don't know.. What's your opinion?
Thank you very much

Hmmm. A couple of questions for you, please. Who is the "them" you contacted? Who are you flying with? A Vietnam airline? And which country's "immigration dept." are they referencing? I'm not sure what to make of the response you received. By the sounds of it, I'm also not so sure the person who wrote quite understood your concern about the eVisa name showing in reverse of your passport.
Me? I wouldn't take the chance. That said, you might have absolutely no issue at all and the airline allows you to board. That's a big "might". It would suck(!) to be at the airport, ready to board, only to be told....
For the sake of $25 US is it really worth the risk? You've still got three or four weeks before your departure, correct? My advice is to submit a new application with your name entered correctly.

What issue are you having getting your eVisa approved? You did not respond to my post to you, here.(Link to post #556)
I applied for a Vietnam e-visa. I just got a second denial email saying "Requires additional information due to the following reason: Incorrect full name (as in ICAO line)"
My full name is ROBERT MCLAIN LARY. The ICAO line has my name printed out as LARY<<ROBERT<MC<LAIN. So it has my middle name separated with a dash. Is this how I have to put my name in on the e-visa application. Is this why my application did not go through?

Hi there, and welcome to the expat.com Vietnam forum.
On the passport information page, up above the ICAO line, what does it state for your surname, and given names?
It sounds, according to what you tell us the ICAO line looks like, that it will be...
Surname
LARY
Given name
ROBERT MC LAIN
Is this correct? If so, your name on the application should appear as...
Last name (Surname)
LARY
First name (Middle and given name)
ROBERT MC LAIN
When you amend your application, according to reports regarding the new eVisa application, you will be brought to the new (post Nov11th) application page. Before you manually enter your name(s), I suggest you reupload your passport information picture to see whether the new automated application feature is working properly.
According to instruction at the new application portal...
Upload a portrait and biometric passport photo. After uploading the photos, the system will automatically display personal information from the passport. Users can check and update any incorrect information.
No need to reupload your portrait pic, just the passport's info page. Very curious as to whether this results in the "First name (Middle and given name)" reversing the order. The application is asking for "middle name" and then "first name", but passports show "first", then "middle". I suspect this is a translation/interpretation error. In any event, if the automated reading of your passport works, the question of name order becomes moot.
We've received to date relatively few reports/feedback regarding the new application. Your reporting back to the forum on your progress with this would be helpful to other members, and would be very much appreciated.
Hello,
I am doing the application and got a question.
Name in passport:
Jorge Andres
Surname in passport:
Por Dios Pereyra Y Armando Ori
ICAO Line:
P<D<PERE<Y<ARMANDO<ORI<<JORGE<ANDRES
what should in input in the Surname (Last name) and Middle and given name (First name) fields?
thanks in advance!
Hello,I am doing the application and got a question.
Hello JorgeM11PT, and welcome to the expat.com Vietnam forum.
Name in passport:Jorge AndresSurname in passport:Por Dios Pereyra Y Armando OriICAO Line:P<D<PERE<Y<ARMANDO<ORI<<JORGE<ANDRESwhat should in input in the Surname (Last name) and Middle and given name (First name) fields?thanks in advance! - @JorgeM11PT
Enter your name as it appears on the bottom of your passport information page, on the ICAO line.
Surname - P D PERE Y ARMANDO ORI
Given name - JORGE ANDRES
See the application's faq page, (Link) third question down on the left...
"When filling out my name on the electronic visa application form, do I need to include my middle name?
Answer: You need to provide your full name, including your surname, middle name, and given name, exactly as it appears on the ICAO line in your passport, using uppercase letters." (emphasis mine)
Hope that helps. Feel free to ask any other questions which might come up. Lots of friendly folk here ready to help.
The new application's document reading algorithm appears to be functioning properly.
I just uploaded my passport info page and a portrait picture cropped from the info page. It awarded a match of 92%, with approval.
The passport's information was also read correctly, and the relevant fields on the application were auto-completed (i.e. nationality, date-of-birth, surname-given name(s) etc.).
My name isn't so long that it appears as a contraction on the ICAO line. I'm curious as to how the application reads contracted/abbreviated/shortened names.
