Belgium Nationality 2024

Geetha geetha madhuri

Hi @drkhangholu, have you received your Nationality, could you share your experience please?

Geetha geetha madhuri

@drkhangholi - Have you got your Nationality, could you share your experience please thank you very much

tunde4elohim

It's already past 4 months + 2 weeks + 4 days and I still don't have my belgian naltionality certificate on mondossier.

Please did anyone had to wait this long during their application?

Liwane

@tunde4elohim

Sorry to hear that. Did you try to contact Commune? Maybe they received an answer.. Because technically if you did not receive a negative answer within the 4 months period + the 2 weeks, you get automatically the Nationality as far as I know.

tunde4elohim

@Liwane

I did visit the commune (Evere, Brussels) on day "4 months + 2" when I was informed like you rightly mentioned that I’ll get the nationality since I didn’t receive a negative response after the official waiting period.

And the commune said I had to wait for my application docs to be returned to them by postmail, afterwhich they will send me a letter to come register for my Belgian ID & passport.

The only thing I find different in my case is that most folks reported seeing their Belgian nationality certificate way before they got the letter from the commune. So I'm just wondering what the delay is about and who is responsible for uploading the certificate - Commune or Foreign Ministry?

Mia0210

@tunde4elohim

The delay is because the Foreign Ministry hasn't made a decision in your case. Once a decision is made by the Foreign Ministry, they handle the update themselves. However, since no decision has been made in your case, the law allows the commune to manually register your citizenship. That's why they are waiting for documents.

Although, technically, this is illegal. Once the 4-month period has passed, you have the right to demand the commune register your citizenship certificate immediately, the very next day. Many people seem to be afraid, and as a result, myths have spread where people think they need to wait not just 4 months, but 4 months plus 1-2 weeks, and so on. This is not true.

But it's up to you. If you're in no hurry and don't mind your rights being violated, you can wait as long as you want. We're not here to advise you on that.

@Mia0210

Thanks for your insights. It was exactly what I did for my L-Card and the commune worker, register my nee ID application on 5 months + 1.

Totally makes sense what’s at play here. I don’t mind being pushy/demanding the commune register my belgian certificate. As a matter of fact I have another commune appointment (Etat Civil) on March 12th for follow-up.

I just have a question, do you from experience know which “counter” is responsible for the Nationality certificate? Would it be the “Population” counter where you can order the Belgium ID/Passport? Or the same “Etat Civil” counter where I submitted my citizen application? I’m aware that it might be different from commune to commune. But I just one to be sure that I’m going to the right desk and avoid outright rejection.

Finally got my belgian nationality certificate uploaded today some few minutes ago.

It took 2 unnecessary visits (yesterday & today) to the Evere commune to ask a particular lousy commune worker guy to do is job. Same guy/man who handled my application from start to finish, always giving stupid excuses and posing a stumbling block in the process. Yesterday, the lousy guy told another major lie  wanting me to wait indefinitely for my certificate until he completes the backlog of folks who applied before me. Well, I pushed back that I needed my Belgian passport to travel soon, then he said I need a flight reservation as proof to treat my case as urgent. Well, I went there this morning with my flight ticket and the certificate got uploaded few minutes after I had left. I have to go to the commune for the 3rd time this week to finally apply for my passports & new id card.

If you had applied in Evere and it’s already past the 4 months period for your nationality application without any update/denial/nationality certificate, please visit the commune and demand that your belgian nationality certificate be uploaded in order to get your passport & id.

Got mine approved end of February. I was surprised that it was so quick (Oost-Vlaanderen), 2 months and 16 days from when the application was submitted including the Xmas holiday period in between.  I did not check daily in mijndossier because I thought no way it could be that quick. I've had my L-card for a few years so maybe that helped?

The police came for an interview after ~ 1.5 months (they called for an appointment), nothing was serious, just a casual chat and they were very friendly.

@abraruddin

in my case, the birth certificate was translated and legalised by both my home country's foreign office and by the Belgian embassy. After a few days, the embassy sent me an a QR code with proof of legalisation via email. Then I  printed this code together with a photocopy my birth certificate (original + translated).

Has anyone ever got the nationality with the permanent residence (5+ years of residence with a small interruption)?

Does living in Belgium for 10 years with a small interruption (gap in residence) qualify for the nationality?

tunde4elohim

@abraruddin

i submitted both legalised & translated birth certificate

Did you have your birth certificate uploaded on your "Mondossier" before your nationality got approved?
