Moving to Mexico from Nova Scotia

Post new topic

bobbaluba

I have joined this site and this forum as my wife and I are seriously considering moving to Mexico from Nova Scotia, Canada.

We have been to Mexico twice on trips and now thinking of selling our home and begin our life in a warmer climate. We only have been to the Mayan Riviera area (Playa Del Carmen) and are looking for a nice Expat area, on or close to the beach. Likely before we commit to a purchase, will likely do a VRBO or rental for a few months to see what life is like and can be like for us both. We have no children, just a small dog and cat.

also have to figure out everything we must do prior to departing and after we land.

Any help or links to sites that can help us it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Bob & MJ

Always first question. Have you checked if you meet the high monthly income standard to get resident status?

Yes get the heck out of Canada. I live in Huatulco. Benn there since early 2021.  For some people it is too hot . I like the calm ocean bays, fresh food and although there are an increasing number of expats it is not as touristy as Playa del Carmen.   To get residency there are financial requirements. From my experience you may be able to find a lawyer who can help even if you are short the required money. I immigrated from within Mexico. I think that can still be done in Huatulco. What I found interesting was that they looked only at my income not the money I had coming out. I had rental income but still had mortgages and condo fees. Seemed they only looked at money coming in and not going out. I used an immigration counselor not a notary or lawyer but I know a couple of people who used a lawyer that pulled some strings.  I would not hesitate to move.

The question is,do you want to go back to PDC or stay close from the USA border?

vmwickline

The goal would be to go back every year with the intention to permanently stay year round in PV after a few years
