Life Partner Registration in RSA

I am a South African citizen by birth.

My boyfriend is an Algerian foreigner living is SA 9 years this year.

I want to register myself as his life partner with home affairs, but someone mentioned to me that I can take all his things if I am his life partner.

Is that true?

Someone else said it is the opposite; that he can take all my things if he wanted to.

What is the truth about this matter?
