Economic Participation Belgian Citizenship

umairsaeed01

Can a dependent wife provide her husband’s salary slips or employment contract as proof of economic participation (which is considered as one of the criterias) when applying for Belgian Citizenship for herself? or is it mandatory to work?

What is her contribution to economic participation in this case?

Nothing.

Each individual must  provide their own documents.

If youre wife is on F card ( family member of belgian citizen) she does not need to show  economic participation when appkying for belgian citizenship.

Actually we both came to belgium together, so the criteria of completing 5 years for Belgian Citizenship will be done simultaneously for both of us. Now, should I apply for an F card for my wife first? But the question arising here is how much time then she has to wait after getting the F card to apply for the Belgian Citizenship.

Hi there,

Is you personally fulfill the criteria (economic, social and linguistic integration), then you can apply for Brlgian nationality provided that you hold a permanent residence permit. If your wife does not fulfill all the same requirements, she cannot yet apply.

There is a way out, but she will need to wait about a year:

She can apply without fulfilling the economic participation requirement if she applies as the spouse of a belgian national. She will need to have a permanent residency card (L, or B works, no meed to have the F, as actually it is the F+ that is accepted), and having fulfilled social and linguistic requirements.

Easiest way to fulfil those requirements: make her do the social integration course and the language test in the approved institutions for that (eg. Convivial).

Hope this works for you.

Thanks for the detailed answer. The Social Integration certificate is already completed by her. So we are stuck as to what to do now.

@umairsaeed01 You apply for it, get it, then she can apply either on you or on your children if there are;; and as a family member of eu .. she doesn't need to work .. so basically she will be late of 1 year after you apply.. time of your application + time of her application - 1 year at most.

I agree with @italobelg. There is not much you (or she) can do but wait for that ~year.

Make sure you apply for yours as fast as possible. consider the time it will take you (and you wife) to get the certified translated copy of the original birth certificate, as certain countries may have difficulties or additional requirements (legalized vs apostille).

Take care and good luck

Additionally that the integration course include the language part... sometimes it is not included... better be safe than sorry
