What are some other cities than Cebu City to retire in Cebu

Brojeslov

I've heard good things from expats about San Remigio and Bogo City but never been there

@Brojeslov

Thanks, I will take a look into what is there.

A lot of it depends on how often you want to be in Cebu City, really. Because getting in and out of the metro area involves horrible traffic congestion for 40-50km and there are no trains like most modern cities have. Just jeepneys, bus or driving yourself. If you have to be there regularly just live there. Having said that, Danao and Carmen up north looks kind of nice for a place not too far out. We visited a few times and it was nice. One could also live in Moalboal or Bantayan Island (both resort towns), Bogo, Toledo City, or Argao, and only go into Cebu City once a month for shopping. Some do, and enjoy it, others want more amenities where they live.

Once you're out of Cebu City, the amenities drop off fast. Like decent restaurants, grocery stores, schools (if you have kids), hardware stores, general shopping, entertainment venues, etc. For example, the southern end of the island is also very scenic  and we actually have a home there with great views and peace and quiet, but we don't live there full time. There's simply nothing to do and no decent schools for our boys. Of course any of these cities are fine if you don't mind living like the average Filipino (nothing wrong with that, btw).

Highly recommend checking out Dumaguete, or Bohol/Panglao, if you want some of those amenities with an easy ferry ride to Cebu. I lived in Panglao for awhile (before they built the airport) and it was really quiet and peaceful, yet with some nice restaurants when desired.

Perfectly stated. We live in Argao, 70km takes 3 hrs to drive and I'm an aggressive driver. As mentioned, I go to the city Once a month. Going Thursday in fact. I load the hell up on things I want/we need. I really shoulda bought a midsize instead of a little hatchback. Or a pickup! lol.

But I'm very happy I'm living here and not in the city. I like the peace and quiet.

talamban

I live in Talamban, on fringe of Cebu City - same Postal Code. I am in a gated/secure subdivision. Rents here are 18,000 to about 25,000 PHP for a one bedroom condo (600 sq ft) to a single story house. I am 30 minutes away (depends on traffic) from SM or Ayala Mall by 300 - 350 PHP Grab Car or Taxi (I do NOT own a car or scooter). Very Near Good Hospital (Cebu Doctors - North General with experienced Specialist in their Walk-in Clinic for 600 Pesos). Walking Distance to Robinson's and Gaisano Grand Mall for groceries and Mercury Drugs. I have been here for five years and glad that I didn't opt for an expensive AND Smaller condo like Spinada or in IT Park.
