In Turkiye, it's not possible to open a bank account online. This service is only available for Turkish citizens with a Turkish ID. Some banks may offer online applications, but you'll need to provide your Turkish ID, similar to a Social Security number in the US, to open an account.

Another option is to use a proxy with power of attorney to open an account for you, but this process would likely cost around US$300 for the power of attorney, notary, apostille and cargo in the USA. After that, the power of attorney needs to be translated and notarized in Turkey, which costs around $400-500, plus a lawyer or agency fee of around $1000. Only certain banks will allow us to process the transaction.

@cdw057  Yes, this news came out a few days ago. It doesn't have anything to do with opening bank accounts, but it's more about Turkey's financial position in the world. That's why there was a crackdown on real estate scams and foreign companies like Wise, which allows Turkish bank accounts. This also affected Papara and all digital wallets, remittance businesses and much more.

However, this doesn't have much to do with us. It's mostly about money laundering. Turkey and Nigeria were previously classified the same for money laundering and international scams. It's positive for sure overall for the country.
