What's the deal with Vietnam visa?  I have a UK passport and want to spend some long term time in Vietnam.  Do I have to visit the embassy like I used to or can I just show up at the border and get a stamp like Thailand or Cambodia et al?

Hello pentametero, and welcome to the expat.com VN forum.

Since Aug15th of last year, your UK passport affords you visa-exempt entry to Vietnam for up to 45 days. Members from visa-exempt countries (like the UK) have reported no obstacle to their exiting and immediately reentering VN, renewing their visa-exempt term. Arrive with your UK passport, and you will be granted entry after clearing customs/immigration here.

An alternative, which will grant you up to 90 days in country, is to apply online for the VN eVisa through the gov't web portal, here. VN embassies currently refer people to that web portal.

I'm unsure of the entry requirements for UK citizens for either Cambodia or Thailand, but you can certainly ask the friendly members on the respective forums there.

Hope this answers your questions.
