I'd start applying for jobs now. Job sites are out there. Dive in.

I interviewed for an IT job in Hanoi at the US embassy that I was less than qualified for once. Didn't get it, but the point is your creds are perfect for ESL teaching gigs. You could score transportation, housing and immigration assistance. Go to the major international outfits. Good luck. Vietnam is a great place to live.

First, be certain that you can get a tourist visa approved.

We've had multiple reports from Nigerian citizens that they've encountered problems when applying for a tourist visa.

One visa agent in Hanoi recently told a Nigerian citizen that the Vietnam government immigration department is being more restrictive when considering applications from Nigeria passport holders (his application was rejected and the agent was unable to be any help to him).

Next, if you are Black, I regret to inform you that there is well-known prejudice against Black people being hired as English teachers in Vietnam.

I'm not saying it would be impossible to find work, but virtually all of the major employers are under pressure from parents to hire Caucasian women as teachers for their children.

Finally, the best employers are prepping all students to eventually pass the ILETS

Test for English Language proficiency.

The test has a "listening" component in which only certain English language "accents" are used:

1. North American English

2. British English

3. Australian English

4. New Zealand English

5. South African English

So premium schools hiring foreigners limit their hiring to qualified applicants who speak with one of those 5 accent groups.

Lastly, please be very cautious about accepting employment from anyone who doesn't IMMEDIATELY get you a government approval letter for employment AND a legal work permit soon after that.

Every day on social media there are myriad reports of foreigners being left in the lurch by unscrupulous employers who tricked people into accepting worthless illegal employment.

Good luck!
