Hi

Am moving to Thailand in 2026.  I have some really good electrical equipment, ie Tv's, DVD Players, Blu Ray Players, Cinema Surround Systems, Hii Fi Separates.

My question is, will these play OK in Thailand?? I know I'll have to plug them in via a two pin plug, but will it be safe to use them??

Alternatively, I suppose I could have western wiring done in some parts of the house, but this may prove more expensive.

Any ideas??

Regards

If they have the UK plug you might need a converter plug. Many for sale in Thailand,  but better quality outside with possibility of buying one extension with EU/Thai plug and several UK adapters on the box

Better that way...

Most better build buildings have 3 phased

Thank you for your reply.

I presume, therefore, that the wattage or whatever the expression is, is the same or similar to the UK.

I just didn't want to turn something on and then hear an almighty bang.

Voltage here is 220 UK 230 should not be an issue

Fred

Thailand is at 50hz so the frequency won't be an issue.

Check duty payments on electronics.

If all is well, bring multi plug blocks from the UK and stick a Thai plug on them

Why change lots of plugs when you can change a few?

If Simon has a Thai bride than Duty can be prevented, same for Non B, not sure if this works with other type of visa

@Fred

Thanks Fred, the duty shouldn't be an issue, as I'll be coming with my Thai wife.  I believe no duty is payable for a returning Thai national.

Thank you once again, as I said I've a lot of good equipment, and would have been a shame to have had to replace.

Just check your voltage if you are going to live in rural Thailand

I live in a rural village and when I checked teh voltage upon my arrival it was between 140 and 190 never 220

The problem is that your TV  amp etc do not receive enough  electricity and thus overheat.

PEA  Prachinburi Electrical Authority came after man  months and begging and installed new wiring to the village and since then the  electricity has been 220 V.

The other option is to buy UPS's for the Amp, TV etc and that will solve the problem

It need not be one that lasts  for several hours ,basically just to convert the power to 220V if it is far lower than 220

Hope this helps
