Buying a new flat

I’m looking to purchase a flat in Caldas da Rainha over the next 6 months but plan on retiring about a year and half later. We don’t plan on renting it out while as we are close to retirement. Is it reasonable to leave it unattended for that period of time or would it be better to wait to purchase the flat?

Obrigado,

Frank

Here's an estimate of how prices have evolved over the last few years in this city. That's your decision, maybe this will guide you

@JohnnyPT

Thank you for the infomation.

I've left somewhere unoccupied for a lengths of time over a 3 year period whilst doing work so tools and cement mixer in addition to household stuff BUT there were "locals" who knew what the situation was and had contact details. I was 40km from Caldas but some eyes on the place and someone checking the post are a good idea. There was also some stuff about insurance if left "unoccupied" which peobablyis more important for a flat then a remote "ruin".

As JohnnyPT pointed, prices have been rising for Caldas da Rainha so it might be a good idea to get the property if you already found what you want.

Leaving the apartment empty for over a year - to be honest I don't think there is any problem. If you know someone around the area, maybe they can drop by every now and then to open windows and stuff but it should be fine.

Are you planning to buy it online or visit the Caldas and buy it whilst in there?

Hi Folks

Remember to sort out your NIF number first. You can't buy or rent a place without having that in place.  If you write in google ICANHELP PT  they are helpful. English people on the team and do more than just issuing NIF numbers, they handle the utilities too ( water, gas and lights)
