A/C and keeping cool in NV

It looks like I will be renting an average-sized 2 brdm apartment.

Both bedrooms have a working AC unit, what are the odds they will be enough to keep the apt somewhat cool?

I lived for a while In Ukraine doing volunteer work right before the war began and while there I could never locate a basic $12 box-style fan to set on the window sill to draw cool air in the evening.

It seemed like such a simple way to ventilate apartments but no one was doing it.

In VN, it seems like the same thing- fans on stands only with a few small fans in a square case.

While I was pleasantly surprised to find there is not much of a mosquito population here (so far) I wondered if there is a place to have a screen made to size for the window with the fan.

I knew living in VN has two challenges: the heat and the limited access to foods I am used to.

If I were in a more major city like HCMC the food available would be a whole lot better than the city I am in now but I will learn to adjust and maybe make an occasional run to HCMC where I might access things I can bring back.

I just searched lazada for box fans and found many that would probably be suitable to sit on your windowsill.

instead of trying to cool your apartment I recommend setting the AC inverter on the dry setting and just keep the humidity down. then use an electric fan to circulate the air and you'll save money and hopefully find it to be as pleasant as I do.

I still get the sense that your girlfriend is not getting involved in dealing with the issues that are important to you.

she really should be able to help you with a number of things especially the food.

she can help you find a source for what you need.

lazada and grab can bring you a lot of different things, and you can make one monthly trip into the bigger city to shop at a co-op Mart or LotteMart or MegaMarket.

I'm not trying to ridicule you..

I'm seriously concerned that you've got yourself in a spot where you aren't getting the kind of support that you need in order to deal with a lot of everyday issues.

most Foreigner men I know here have learned to turn over the day-to-day minutiae to their significant other and they are much happier for it.

for one thing, your girlfriend should be able to help you find a vendor who will come out and put in one window screen or all window screens.

also you may want to consider getting one of those portable mosquito nets to put over your bed.

again you can find those on lazada.

but you should know that in order to be effective in ordering off of lazada you'll need to provide them a local phone number and it should be answered by someone who speaks the Vietnamese language.

because whenever something is delivered to you the driver is going to call you first.

I really hope that you end up having a great supportive relationship with your girlfriend.

Good luck🙏

Thanks for your input.

As for food, there is one larger grocery store here but there is not much there for me. I did buy a bottle of Ceasar salad dressing, which was ok.

My GF seems to be a bit of a cheapskate, she prefers to eat at these little mom&pop places. But really, there than that there are a few places that have hamburgers (Cafeteria & Joolebees). While in Dalat I tracked down a -Mexican restaurant-  which was ummm, not bad. So unless I name a place to eat, she will head to the typical places. I am slowly finding local places which have a few things I like. And I don't mean to sound like I am so critical of the local food, I just hope to find a little variety.

Did you mention websites where food items can be ordered?

Yes I agree, often it is the humidity which is the main factor, will the humidity feature be on the remote? When I was there yesterday, I tested them to make sure they were working.

The only "problem" with the apartment seemed to be this big sliding glass entrance door which is kind of jammed up and I will address that before moving in.

I looked online for a box fan on Lazada last night and only saw small square ones but I was searching using English. I will try with the translation of the word FAN and see if I can find something.

BTW, I can't really fault my GF, she does everything she can to help me.  Anything I mention she tries to cook, she washes my clothes even when I insist they don't need washing. She leaves her apt and drives through the rain to visit me in the rain, even when I suggest she wait.

She asks nothing of me. I thought of buying her a new phone because her screens all cracked but she feels its still working and dismissed the idea.

I generally get better info here than when I ask her about ATM's or whatever the topic might be.
